  1. 16. Influences of in vivo and in vitro loading on the proteoglycan synthesis of articular cartilage chondrocytes

    Författare :Mikko Lammi; Markku Tammi; Jukka Finne; Tim Hardingham; Finland Kuopio University of Kuopio Department of Anatomy; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Articular cartilage; proteoglycans; loading; stress; hydrostatic pressure; biokemi; Biochemistry; cell research; cellforskning; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; ortopedi; Orthopaedics;

    Sammanfattning : In this study, the biosynthesis of proteoglycans (PGs) was examined in articular cartilage of canine hip joint after long-distance running experiment and in bovine chondrocyte cultures during in vitro loading with hydrostatic pressure. In addition, new assays were developed for more sensitive quantitation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and PGs. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Role of embryonic mitochondria in the generation of congenital malformations in diabetic pregnancy

    Författare :Xiaolin Yang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; embryo; diabetic pregnancy; congenital malformation; mitochondria; high-amplitudemitochondrial swelling; oxygen uptake; glucose utilization; Crabtree effect; superoxide generation; antioxidant; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetic pregnancy is associated with an increased incidence of congenital malformations. The teratologicalmechanism may be related to an alteration of embryonic organogenesis by maternal metabolic derangementsduring early gestation. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Maf and Mitf transcription factors regulate pancreatic endocrine cell differentiation and function

    Författare :Magdalena Mazur; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pancreas development; beta cells; insulin; MafA; MafB; Mitf; diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes - the imbalance in glucose homeostasis is partially caused by loss or dysfunction of pancreatic insulin producing β cells or development of insulin resistance. In Type 1 diabetes β cells are destroyed in the process of an autoimmune attack, whereas in Type 2 diabetes, islets produce insufficient amounts of insulin or the insulin cannot be used adequately. 4. 19. Development and comparison of in vitro toxicity methods for nanoparticles : Focus on lung cell exposure

    Författare :Siiri Latvala; Karine Elihn; Hanna Karlsson; Lennart Möller; Hannu Norppa; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Concerns for the toxic effects of airborne nanoparticles have been raised along with the increasing production of nanostructured materials. However, the health risks of nanoparticle exposure are currently not fully understood. The most commonly used techniques to study nanoparticle toxicity, both in vivo and in vitro, have several limitations. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Engineered nanomaterials in in vivo and in vitro models

    Författare :Laura Abariute; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; III-V semiconductor nanowires; Nanoparticle exposure; Mouse exposure; Cell exposure; Nanotoxicology; Nanosafety; Fysicumarkivet A:2018:Abariute;

    Sammanfattning : Nanotechnology and engineered nanomaterials (ENM) empower existing technologies. One of the great examples are III-V semiconductor nanowires (NW), which have a broad application range. The occupational safety and hazard organizations draw attention to ENM, as their physical and chemical characteristics differ from the ones of bulk materials. LÄS MER
