    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cartilage; Chondrocytes metabolism; Chondroitin sulfates; Glycosaminoglycans; Osteoarthritis; Proteoglycans; Glucosamine; Sulfation; Biochemistry; biokemi; cellforskning; cell research; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : Glucosamine (GlcN) and glucosamine sulfate (GS) have been used to treat the patients with osteoarthritis(OA) as a disease-modifying agent. Previousin vitro studies have focused on the effects of GlcN or GSon cartilage metabolism, whereas in vivo studies have investigated their potential for the treatment of OA. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Intra-articular Glucocorticoid Treatment : Efficacy and Side Effects

    Författare :Tomas Weitoft; Lars Rönnblom; Ronald vanVollenhoven; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; arthritis; intra-articular glucocorticoid; triamcinolone hexacetonide; arthrocentesis; bone metabolism; cartilage; cortisol; ACTH; joint infection; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Intra-articular glucocorticoid injection therapy is frequently used to relieve symptoms of arthritis, but there is considerable variation in injection routines among physicians. One issue of debate concerns the importance of synovial fluid aspiration during the injection procedure. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Metabolism of articular cartilage proteoglycans in vitro : effects of synovial membrane products and mechanical pressure

    Författare :Agneta Klämfeldt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Articular cartilage; Proteoglycan metabolism; Synovial membrane products; Mechanical stress; Indom ethacin; Glucocorticoids; Prostaglandins; Osteoarthritis; Rheumatoid arthritis;

    Sammanfattning : The effect of synovial membrane products and mechanical pressure upon the metabolism of articular cartilage proteoglycans has been studied in vitro. The degradation of cartilage proteoglycans was studied in an organ culture system and measured as the release of [35S ] sulphate from prelabelled cartilage. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Maturation-dependent normal and injury-induced changes in rabbit knee articular cartilage

    Författare :Xiaochun Wei; Leif Ryd; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :rabbit; development; maturation; knee joint; articular cartilage; osteochondral defect; cartilage repair; joint fluid; subchondral bone volume fraction; proteoglycan fragment; transforming growth factor-ß; biomechanics; indentation; histology; hlstomorphometry; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Cartilage injuries are common in sports, and may on the long term develop to osteoarthritis. Prosthetic joint replacement is not satisfactory for young active individuals with extended cartilage injuries in large weight-bearing joints. In these cases, a treatment is needed which reestablishes normal joint surfaces by biologic means. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cartilage Tissue Engineering; the search for chondrogenic progenitor cells and associated signalling pathways

    Författare :Maria Thornemo; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :stem cell; progenitor cell; tissue engineering; cartilage; articular chondrocytes;

    Sammanfattning : The socioeconomic cost of articular cartilage related diseases in the Western world is very high. The suffering of the individual patient is even more problematic. LÄS MER
