  1. 1. Pharmacoepidemiologic Studies of Diabetes Mellitus - with special reference to - Glucose Control and Prognosis of Type 2 Diabetes

    Författare :Jonny Olsson; Samhällsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; secreting systems; Endocrinology; cohort study; longitudinal study; cross-sectional study; mortality; diabetes mellitus; Pharmacoepidemiology; prevalence; type 2 diabetes; diabetes costs; short-term sick-leave; premature retirement; production losses; inpatient care; glycaemic control; fasting blood glucose; oral antihyperglycaemic agents; sulphonylurea; metformin; insulin; combination treatment; drug utilization; prescribed daily doses; safety; effectiveness; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : The efficacy and safety of antihyperglycaemic drugs have been evaluated in one American and one British randomized clinical trial, which have given contradictory results. The positive results of the latter may be more convincing as it included a greater number of patients and as its duration was longer. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Diabetes Mellitus Glucose Prediction by Linear and Bayesian Ensemble Modeling

    Författare :Fredrik Ståhl; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diabetes; Glucose Prediction; Identification; Ensemble Prediction;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease of impaired blood glucose control due to degraded or absent bodily-specific insulin production, or utilization. To the affected, this in many cases implies relying on insulin injections and blood glucose measurements, in order to keep the blood glucose level within acceptable limits. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Insights into the metabolism of Clostridium thermocellum for cellulosic ethanol production

    Författare :Johannes Yayo; Antonius J. A. van Maris; Richard Sparling; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Clostridium thermocellum; ethanol; glucose; fructose; amino acids; pyrophosphate; chaotropicity; thermodynamic driving force; laboratory evolution; chemostats; metabolic engineering; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : The societal goal of reaching net-zero CO2 emissions requires development of integrated biorefineries to produce biomass-derived fuels and chemicals. For sustainable second-generation bioethanol production, consolidated bioprocessing with the thermophile Clostridium thermocellum is regarded as a promising concept in view of the microorganism’s native ability to efficiently degrade plant cell wall material. 4. 4. Exploring the Propanediol Utilization Pathway in Lactobacillus reuteri

    Författare :Lu Chen; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :Lactobacillus reuteri; propanediol utilization pathway; microcompartment; shell proteins; glycerol; 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde; 3-hydroxypropionic acid; 1; 3-propanediol; glycerol dehydratase; 1; 3-propanediol oxidoreductase; propionaldehyde dehydrogenase; redox balance; substrate selectivity;

    Sammanfattning : Concerns regarding environmental issues have led to increasing efforts for investigating sustainable production routes for the future industry that is based on renewable resources. Among the biobased chemicals, the C3-chemicals 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde (3-HPA), 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) and 3-hydroxypropionic acid (3-HP), have been identified as top candidates for the chemical industry. 5. 5. Islet glucose metabolism and insulin release in two animal models of glucose intolerance

    Författare :Zong-Chao Ling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Goto-Kakizaki GK rat; transgenic mice; glucose-6-phosphatase activity; insulin secretion; glucocorticoids; [alpha]2-adrenergic receptors; hyperglycemia;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is a complex and heterogenous disease resulting from the interaction of defects of both genetic and environmental origin. Abnormalities contributing to the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes include impaired [beta]-cell function, peripheral insulin resistance and increased hepatic glucose production. LÄS MER
