  1. 1. Insulinogenic Effects of Milk- and Other Dietary Proteins, Mechanisms and metabolic implications

    Författare :Mikael Nilsson; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Näringslära; Nutrition; Type 2 diabetes; Isolated islets; Incretin hormones; Food proteins; Amino acids; Insulin index; Glycaemic index; Hyperinsulinaemia; Insulin; Blood glucose; Milk; Whey;

    Sammanfattning : The metabolic syndrome (type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, dyslipidaemia, and hyperinsulinaemia), is increasing in prevalence world-wide. The progression of this syndrome proceeds through a step-wise deterioration of metabolic events where deterioration of insulin sensitivity appears to have a key role in a ?vicious circle? of hyperinsulinaemia/hyperglycaemia and insulin resistance. 2. 2. Development of Flourescence-based Immunosensors for Continous Carbohydrate Monotoring : Applications for Maltose and Glucose

    Författare :Henrik Engström; Sten Ohlson; Per Ola Andersson; Christopher Lowe; Högskolan i Kalmar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Carbohydrate; Diabetes; Immunosensor; ; Glucose; Maltose; Weak affinity chromatograhpy; Kolhydrater; Glukos; Maltose; Affinitetskromatografi; Diabetes; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Bioteknik; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : Weak affinity interaction of monoclonal antibodies and carbohydrate antigens can be detected and quantified by alterations in the antibodies' intrinsic tryptophan fluorescence. These weak/transient binding events have been monitored by total internal reflection fluorescence (TlRF) by facilitating the change in intrinsic tryptophan fluorescence. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of dietary fibre on the human metabolism and metabolome

    Författare :Anna Johansson Persson; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; arabinoxylan; b-glucan; dietary fibre; inflammation; LC-MS; metabolomics; oat; pectin; postprandial response; randomised controlled trial; rye; sugar beet fibre;

    Sammanfattning : It is well-known that dietary fibre can have a positive effect on the development of lifestyle-dependent diseases such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. However, the effect may be different for different kinds of fibre and different sub-populations at risk. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Health Effects of Foods Enriched with Cereal beta-Glucans from Cereals

    Författare :Maria Biörklund; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Näringslära; Nutrition; glucose; cholesterol; oats; barley;

    Sammanfattning : Since soluble fibre in the form of the cereal beta-glucans found in oats and barley has been shown to have a positive effect on lipid and glucose metabolism, people at risk of developing cardiovascular diseases or diabetes might benefit from that a variety of palatable food products containing beta-glucans being available to them. The aim of the papers presented in the thesis was to evaluate the metabolic effects on persons with hypercholesterolemia or type 2 diabetes of various new food prototypes supplemented by beta-glucans. 5. 5. Candidate Genes for Late Diabetic Complications

    Författare :Eero Lindholm; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TNF; sekretion; LTA; Endocrinology; nephropathy; diabetes mellitus; retinopathy; neuropathy; genetic; UCP; diabetologi; AGER; MHc2TA; HLA-DQB1; Endokrinologi; secreting systems; diabetology;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The new WHO criteria for classification of diabetes takes into account also clinical stages dividing the diabetic patients into noninsulin requiring (NIR), insulin requiring for control (IRC) and insulin requiring for survival (IRS) subgroups.
