11. Inflammation and ischemia in the developing brain - modifying effects of hyperoxia and adrenoceptor activation
Sammanfattning : Inflammation and ischemia are common causes of perinatal brain damage. Ventilation with pure oxygen has previously been the prime choice during resuscitation following fetal asphyxia. LÄS MER
12. Synaptic Integration of Hippocampal Neurons Generated in the Adult Brain: Influence of a Pathological Environment
Sammanfattning : The adult brain constantly produces new neurons from endogenous neural progenitor cells located in at least two regions, the subgranular zone (SGZ) in dentate gyrus of the hippocampus, and the subventricular zone (SVZ). Major efforts are underway to discover the functional significance of new neurons in the adult brain. LÄS MER
13. The Cross-Talk between GABA Signalling and Metabolic Hormones in the Brain and Pancreatic Islets
Sammanfattning : GABA is a well-known neurotransmitter that can be synthesized in the central nervous system (CNS) and, interestingly, also in pancreatic islets. Once released, GABA activates GABA-A channels tonically or transiently resulting in different physiological functions. LÄS MER
14. Role of Endogenous BDNF and NT3 for Synaptic Transmission and Plasticity in the Dentate gyrus
Sammanfattning : The neurotrophins, notably brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurotrophin 3 (NT3), modulate synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity in the adult mammalian brain. Recent data suggest that neurotrophins might be mediators of activity-dependent synaptic plasticity. LÄS MER
15. Generation of cortical neurons through reprogramming technology
Sammanfattning : The human cortex is affected by several debilitating acute and chronic neurodegenerative disorders such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease, which target specific types of cortical neurons. Emerging evidence indicates that stem cells and reprogrammed cells can be used to generate human cortical neurons both for cell replacement by transplantation, and for disease modeling and drug screening.
