1. Modular Hyaluronan-Based Hydrogels for 3D Cell Culture and Bioprinting
Sammanfattning : Three-dimensional (3D) cell culture facilitates development of biological relevant assays for drug screening and toxicity testing. Compared to conventional 2D cell culture, cells cultured in 3D can more accurately mimic human tissues and organs and thus provide ex vivo data with potentially better predictive value for cancer research, pharmacology, and toxicology, reducing the need for animal models, improving experimental reproducibility, and reducing time and costs in drug development. 2. Stem cells in the adult heart - 3D culture, isolation of side population cells and search for a stem cell niche
Sammanfattning : Cardiac tissue shows a poor regenerative capacity. From 2003 reports, mostly based on animal models, have showed existence of stem cells also in the heart. Using 14C measurements, a slow but steady turnover of the cardiac cells was shown in humans, around 1%/year. As a source for this regeneration endogenous stem cells have been suggested. LÄS MER
3. Development and optimization of a 3D in vitro model for osteogenic biomaterial evaluation
Sammanfattning : Despite the innate regenerative capabilities of bone tissue, self-repair is impaired when an injury exceeds the critical size threshold because of trauma, congenital, or pathological conditions. Autologous transplantation is the gold standard to reconstruct large bone defects. LÄS MER
4. Utilizing Biopolymers in 3D Tumor Modeling and Tumor Diagnosis
Sammanfattning : Cancer represents a significant global public health challenge and ranks as the second mostcommon cause of death in the United States. The onset of cancer entails an initial phasewhere cells lose their polarity and disconnect from the normal basement membrane, allowingthem to form distinct three-dimensional (3D) configurations that interact with adjacent cellsand the surrounding microenvironment. 5. Proteomics informed investigation of human hepatocytes and liver tissue
Sammanfattning : A successful drug needs to display beneficial absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity (ADME-Tox) profile. It is therefore important to investigate these properties during the drug discovery process. LÄS MER
