    Sammanfattning : Cancer represents a significant global public health challenge and ranks as the second mostcommon cause of death in the United States. The onset of cancer entails an initial phasewhere cells lose their polarity and disconnect from the normal basement membrane, allowingthem to form distinct three-dimensional (3D) configurations that interact with adjacent cellsand the surrounding microenvironment. 2. 2. Decellularized liver extracellular matrix as a 3D scaffold for bioengineering applications

    Författare :Vamakshi Khati; Aman Russom; Håkan Jönsson; Giulia Gaudenzi; Ana Teixeira; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; liver decellularization; decellularized liver matrix bioink; bioprinting; sacrificial scaffold; viscoelasticity; bioengineering; tumor modeling; stem cell differentiation; bioreactor; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing global burden of end-stage liver disease has increased the need for liver transplantation, the definitive cure. However, there is a huge discrepancy between the number of available organ donors and the number of patients waiting for transplantation, resulting in the deaths of a significant number of patients on the waiting list as only 10% of the global need for transplantation is met. Sammanfattning : This dissertation presents a contribution to quantitative microwave imaging for breast tumor detection. The study made in the frame of a joint supervision Ph.D. thesis between University Paris-SUD 11 (France) and Mälardalen University (Sweden), has been conducted through two experimental microwave imaging setups, the existing 2. 4. 4. Brain development in a dish

    Författare :Robin Johan Pronk; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis shows the path I took in the quest for modeling the brain, as the title says, in a dish. The introduction of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) as means to research biological processes has opened up whole new fields of study and unprecedented possibilities of generating human cells in vitro. 5. 5. Visualization and mesoscopic simulation in systems biology

    Författare :Martin Falk; Thomas Ertl; Germany University of Stuttgart Visualization Research Center; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Scientific Visualization; GPGPU; Simulation; Systems Biology; Model Development; Signal Transduction;

    Sammanfattning : Biological cells appear everywhere on earth. They might live on their own as unicellular organism, like bacteria, or might form complex organisms consisting of several thousands or millions of cells. Despite their small size of only a few micrometers, they are complex little miracles. LÄS MER
