  1. 1. Modular Hyaluronan-Based Hydrogels for 3D Cell Culture and Bioprinting

    Författare :Michael Jury; Daniel Aili; Robert Selegård; My Hedhammar; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyaluronan; 3D cell-culture; Biofunctionality; Bioprinting;

    Sammanfattning : Three-dimensional (3D) cell culture facilitates development of biological relevant assays for drug screening and toxicity testing. Compared to conventional 2D cell culture, cells cultured in 3D can more accurately mimic human tissues and organs and thus provide ex vivo data with potentially better predictive value for cancer research, pharmacology, and toxicology, reducing the need for animal models, improving experimental reproducibility, and reducing time and costs in drug development. 2. 2. Promoting the Clinical Relevance of 3D Bioprinting

    Författare :Peter Apelgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3D Bioprinting; Cartilage;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the development of methodologies enabling the reconstruction of autologous, functional, and long-term-stable cartilage-like tissue using 3D bioprinting technology and animal experiments. The stability, resilience, and in vivo viability of the printed cells and tissue vascularization, as well as the observed immunogenicity and safety, represent the main issues evaluated and discussed in this thesis. 3. 3. Microcirculation in tissue repair - from microsurgery to 3D bioprinting

    Författare :Matteo Amoroso; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microsurgery; 3D bioprinting;

    Sammanfattning : Microsurgical reconstruction is challenged by two main shortcomings: Perfusion Related Complication (PRC) and donor site morbidity. In the first 3 studies of this thesis, we aimed to provide solutions to PRC-problems, investigating hemodilution as a tool able to increase blood flow in flap microcirculation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Decellularized liver extracellular matrix as a 3D scaffold for bioengineering applications

    Författare :Vamakshi Khati; Aman Russom; Håkan Jönsson; Giulia Gaudenzi; Ana Teixeira; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; liver decellularization; decellularized liver matrix bioink; bioprinting; sacrificial scaffold; viscoelasticity; bioengineering; tumor modeling; stem cell differentiation; bioreactor; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing global burden of end-stage liver disease has increased the need for liver transplantation, the definitive cure. However, there is a huge discrepancy between the number of available organ donors and the number of patients waiting for transplantation, resulting in the deaths of a significant number of patients on the waiting list as only 10% of the global need for transplantation is met. 5. 5. Modular Enzyme-Responsive Polysaccharide-Based Hydrogels for Biofabrication

    Författare :Sajjad Naeimipour; Daniel Aili; Robert Selegård; Alireza Dolatshahi-Pirouz; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 3D cell-culture; Bioprinting; Alginate; Hyaluronan; Cancer model;

    Sammanfattning : Engineered human tissue and disease models can decrease the cost and time of developing new drugs and treatments, facilitate personalized medicine, and eliminate the need for animal models that poorly represent the human body and are ethically problematic. However, the current conventional cell expansion methods using 2D culture flasks cannot enable the development of such complex multi-cellular 3D models. LÄS MER
