  1. 1. Modelling and Simulation to Improve Antimalarial Therapy

    Författare :Jesmin Permala Lohy Das; Mats Karlsson; Martin Bergstrand; Joel Tarning; Mads Krielgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacometrics; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; malaria; artemisinin; weekly dosing; resistant; pregnant populations; intermittent preventive therapy; parasite clearance; day 3 positivity; nomogram; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi;

    Sammanfattning : The introduction of artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) substantially reduced malaria-related mortality and morbidity during the past decade. Despite the widespread use of ACT, there is still a considerable knowledge gap with regards to safety, efficacy and pharmacokinetic properties of these drugs, particularly in vulnerable populations like children and pregnant women. 2. 2. Clinical impact of epoetins in the treatment of anemia with special emphasis on patients with lymphoid malignancies. : dosing, iron supplementation and safety

    Författare :Michael Hedenus; Jack Lindh; Anders Österborg; Robert Hast; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; anemia; cancer; lymphoproliferative malignancies; erythropoietin; intravenous iron; safety; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to determine the relevant dose of arbepoetin-alfa (DA) in patients with lymphoproliferative diseases (LPD) and chemotherapy induced anemia (CIA), to study the clinical impact of intravenous (IV) iron supplementation combined with epoetin beta treatment, to identify factors that might predict hemoglobin (Hb) response to treatment with epoetins and to investigate safety of DA.A dose-finding phase II study was able to assess a reasonable DA dose of 2. 3. 3. Pharmacokinetic dosing of factor VIII and factor IX in prophylactic treatment of haemophilia

    Författare :Maj Carlsson; Malmö Klinisk koagulationsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Haematology; Prophylaxis; Pharmacokinetics; Pharmaceutical service; Haemophilia B; Haemophilia A; Factor IX; Factor VIII; Drug distribution; Cost-effectiveness; Dosage; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was to increase cost-effectiveness in prophylactic treatment of haemophilia. Prophylaxis is effective to prevent bleedings and arthropathy, but the high cost limits its use. First, a new distribution system for clotting factor concentrates was implemented in Sweden to improve availability and reduce risks and costs. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Exploring Cancer Drugs In Vitro and In Vivo : With Special Reference to Chemosensitivity Testing and Early Clinical Development

    Författare :Anne von Heideman; Peter Nygren; Bengt Tholander; Rolf Larsson; Seija Grénman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytotoxic drug; in vitro assay; drug development; phase I clinical trial; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the utility of in vitro drug sensitivity testing to optimize the use of cancer chemotherapy and to assess the properties of a new cancer drug in a phase I clinical trial. Tumour cells from patients were analysed with the short-term Fluorometric Microculture Cytotoxicity Assay (FMCA). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Evaluation of Naltrexone as a treatment for amphetamine dependence

    Författare :Nitya Jayaram-Lindström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Amphetamine addiction is a disease that affects millions of people worldwide and lacks effective treatment. An estimated 35 million persons are reported to abuse amphetamines, which is more than the total number of cocaine and heroin abusers combined. LÄS MER
