  1. 1. Assessment of dietary intake in young populations using new approaches and technologies

    Författare :Åsa Svensson; Christel Larsson; Lauren Lissner; Hilde Brekke; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; dietary intake; energy; assessment; validity; reproducibility; children; adolescents; women; pregnant; overweight; technology; Kostvetenskap; Food and Nutrition;

    Sammanfattning : AbstractBackground There is a great need for improved dietary assessment methods that give valid intake data and are more user friendly than traditional methods.Objectives The aim of this thesis was to develop, implement, and evaluate dietary assessment methods using new approaches and technologies in young populations, and to investigate variables that are important for reporting accuracy. 2. 2. Modelling and Simulation to Improve Antimalarial Therapy

    Författare :Jesmin Permala Lohy Das; Mats Karlsson; Martin Bergstrand; Joel Tarning; Mads Krielgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacometrics; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; malaria; artemisinin; weekly dosing; resistant; pregnant populations; intermittent preventive therapy; parasite clearance; day 3 positivity; nomogram; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi;

    Sammanfattning : The introduction of artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) substantially reduced malaria-related mortality and morbidity during the past decade. Despite the widespread use of ACT, there is still a considerable knowledge gap with regards to safety, efficacy and pharmacokinetic properties of these drugs, particularly in vulnerable populations like children and pregnant women. 3. 3. The informational value and usefulness of serum retinoid measurements. Studies on biological variation, including infancy and pregnancy, and influence of fasting, antiepileptic drugs and ethanol

    Författare :Maria Berggren Söderlund; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; vitamin A deficiency; teratogenicity; ethanol; antiepileptic drugs; caloric restriction; infant; pregnant; biological variation; 13-cis retinoic acid; all-trans retinoic acid; Vitamin A; retinol;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of these studies were to evaluate retinoid measurements, more specifically the performance of all-trans and 13-cis retinoic acids methods in clinical experimental settings and to evaluate the informational value of these measurements in relation to S-Retinol. Biological and analytical variations for retinoids were evaluated for healthy subjects. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Biomarkers of exposure to pesticides in humans

    Författare :Eva Ekman; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :Biomarker; Mass Spectrometry; Pharmacokinetics; Exposure assessment; Peticides; Pregnant Women; Biomonitoring; Urine; LC-MS MS; Biomarker; Mass Spectrometry; Pharmacokinetics; Exposure assessment; Peticides; Pregnant Women; Biomonitoring; Urine; LC-MS MS;

    Sammanfattning : Almost every human is exposed to pesticides, in work environments, by domestic use and via diet, drinking water and personal products. Current research expresses concern that low dose exposure over time can lead to adverse health effects. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Iodine intake and uptake in populations at risk for iodine deficiency

    Författare :Sofia Manousou; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; iodine; pregnancy; lactation; bariatric surgery; urinary iodine concentration; thyroglobulin; breastmilk iodine concentration; iodine supplementation; Sweden;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Iodine is essential for the production of thyroid hormones. Both iodine deficiency (ID) and iodine excess may be harmful. Iodine intake in Sweden is considered adequate for the general population due to iodization of table salt since 1936 but data on pregnant and breastfeeding women (i.e. LÄS MER
