    Sammanfattning : Recent advances in information and communication technologies have made the development and operation of complex disease surveillance systems technically feasible, and many systems have been proposed to interpret diverse data sources for health-related signals. Implementing these systems for daily use and efficiently interpreting their output, however, remains a technical challenge. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Bayesian inference for detection problems in biology

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Författare :Ronny Hedell; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2017]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PCR; Bayesian inference; Forensic DNA analysis; Syndromic surveillance; Bacillus anthracis; Markov chain Monte Carlo; Allele dropout;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about different kinds of detection problems in biology: detection of DNA sequences in crime scene samples, detection of harmful bacteria in feed and food stuff and detection of epidemical diseases in animal populations. In each case, biological data is produced or collected in order to determine which DNA sequences, bacteria types or diseases are present, if any. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : A large number of emerging infectious diseases (including influenza epidemics) has been identified during the last century. The emergence and re-emergence of infectious diseases have a negative impact on global health. Influenza epidemics alone cause between 3 and 5 million cases of severe illness annually, and between 250,000 and 500,000 deaths. LÄS MER
