11. Extracellular serine proteases as virulence factors in nematophagous fungi: Molecular characterization and functional analysis of the PII protease in Arthrobotrys oligospora
Sammanfattning : Nematophagous fungi are parasites of nematodes, thus they have been considered and tested for biological control of parasitic nematodes, but so far with limited success. Due to the fact that the nematode cuticle is composed of proteins it is likely that fungal extracellular proteases are involved in the infection of nematodes. LÄS MER
12. Interpreting a Giant : Studies of Structure and Function of Tripeptidyl-peptidase II
Sammanfattning : Tripeptidyl-peptidase II (TPP II) is a subtilisin-like serine peptidase that forms a gigantic homooligomeric complex, and is involved in the degradation of peptides in the cytosol. In addition, TPP II has been implicated in specific cellular processes, such as apoptosis control and adipogenesis, but if this is dependent on its endo- or exopeptidase activity remains to be determined. 13. Stability determinants and decay of Bacillus subtilis mRNAs
Sammanfattning : Degradation of mRNA is a controlled process which is as important for gene regulation as the synthesis of mRNA. This thesis focuses on mechanisms of mRNA stability and degradation in Bacillus subtilis, the model of Gram-positive bacteria. LÄS MER
14. Crustacean immunity : Characterization of some crayfish blood proteins
Sammanfattning : The cDNA sequence and some properties of a previously purified #x03B2;-1,3-glucan binding protein are reported here. The putative amino acid sequence (predicted molecular mass: 152 kDa) of the protein did not show any significant similarity to any known protein, but an RGD motif and a region with slight similarity to bacterial glucanase was found. 15. Haptoglobin: Biosynthesis and Evolution
Sammanfattning : Haptoglobin (Hp) is a serum protein known for its ability to form a tight complex with hemoglobin (Hb) and thereby inhibiting the oxidative activity of Hb. Mammalian Hp is synthesized as a precursor (proHp) that undergoes proteolytic cleavage by a previously unidentified enzyme in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). LÄS MER
