  1. 16. Design and synthesis of steroid mimetic libraries using solid phase techniques

    Författare :Marcus Ruda; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Pyridone; quinolone; benzoindazole; solid phase chemistry; scavenger resin; combinatorial chemistry; alpha-arylation; nuclear hormone receptor; steroid mimetic.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the design and synthesis of biologically active ligands for nuclear hormone receptors using combinatorial techniques. In the first part, a 5,6,6a,7,8,9,10,10a-octahydrobenzo[f]quinolin-3(4H)-one tricyclic core structure was designed mimicking the ABC-rings of a steroid. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Thyroid hormone receptor expression in cardiovascular disease and pharmacology

    Författare :Shiva Shahrara; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :TR mRNA; amiodarone; propranolol; heart rate; Quantitative RT-PCR; Western blot; Northern blot; mRNA and protein distribution; chronic valvular disease; Mated cardiomyopathy; AT- I cardiomyocytes; mouse myocardium;

    Sammanfattning : The heart is a major target organ for thyroid hormone actions. Thyroid hormone exerts effects on the myocardium, which are mediated by specific nuclear receptors. The thyroid hormone receptors (TR) are members of the steroid hormone receptor superfamily. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Stroke, Sex and Vascular Receptor Changes in the Brain

    Författare :Hilda Ahnstedt; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; endothelin receptors; Cerebral ischemia; sex; estrogen; progesterone; sex differences; human cerebral arteries; endothelin-1; angiotensin II; middle cerebral artery occlusion; extra-cellular signal regulated kinase 1 and 2;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is a severe cerebrovascular disease in which the neuronal tissue and vasculature of the brain undergo ischemia-evoked alterations. We have demonstrated an increased expression of cerebrovascular contractile receptors in the brain. This is hypothesized to mitigate cerebral blood flow and exacerbate tissue damage after stroke. 4. 19. Adaptability of skeletal muscle to hormone treatment in relation to gender and aging

    Författare :Fushun Yu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :skinned muscle fiber; gender; aging; steroid hormone; V0 electrophoresis; MyHC; MyLC; enzymehistochemistry; hyperthyroid rat; thyroid hormone receptor TR deficient TR[alpha]1 - -; TR[beta]- -; and TR[alpha]1- -[beta]- - mice;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this study were to investigate the expression of myosin isoforms, muscle contractility at the cell level, and changes in these parameters in response to altered hormonal status in aging male and female rodents. In addition, by using mice lacking thyroid hormone receptors (TR[alpha]1 or TR[beta] or TR[alpha]1/[beta]) we tried to improve our understanding of the mechanisms by which thyroid hormone regulates the expression of specific MyHC isoforms via these different nuclear receptors. 5. 20. Functional studies on the orphan receptor Nurr1 and related retinoid receptors

    Författare :Diogo Sampaio e Castro; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Nuclear receptors (NRs) constitute a large family of ligand-inducible transcription factors which includes receptors for steroid hormones, retinoids (vitamin A derivatives), vitamin D an d thyroid hormone. The family also includes a large number of structurally related proteins that lack identified ligands and are therefore refered to as orphan receptors. LÄS MER
