  1. 1. Selenoproteins in the Bovine Mammary Gland. Regulation of mRNA and Protein Expression

    Författare :Katharina Bruzelius; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Livsmedelsteknik; Food and drink technology; metabolism; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; Naturvetenskap; milk; Natural science; cancer; prolactin; insulin; hydrocortisone; retinoic acid; MAC-T; northern blot; two-dimensional electrophoresis; bovine mammary gland; selenium; selenoprotein;

    Sammanfattning : Selenium is a micronutrient that is essential for many important life processes due to the action of the specific selenoproteins containing one or more of the 21st amino acid, selenocysteine. Twenty-five selenoprotein genes have been found in the human genome but the function of many of them is not yet known. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Thyroid hormone receptor expression in cardiovascular disease and pharmacology

    Författare :Shiva Shahrara; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :TR mRNA; amiodarone; propranolol; heart rate; Quantitative RT-PCR; Western blot; Northern blot; mRNA and protein distribution; chronic valvular disease; Mated cardiomyopathy; AT- I cardiomyocytes; mouse myocardium;

    Sammanfattning : The heart is a major target organ for thyroid hormone actions. Thyroid hormone exerts effects on the myocardium, which are mediated by specific nuclear receptors. The thyroid hormone receptors (TR) are members of the steroid hormone receptor superfamily. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Somatostatin neurotransmission : studies on experimentally induced cognitive changes and Alzheimer’s disease

    Författare :Lars Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimer s disease Adenylyl cyclase Autoradiography Behavior Cerebral cortex DemenbaEnvironment Ibotenic acid lesion In-situ hybridization Learning Neuropeptides Northern blot Nucleus basalismagnocellularis Posttranslational processing Rat Recepto;

    Sammanfattning : Several neuropeptides are widely distributed in regions of the central nervous system (CNS) which are associated with cognitive functions. Multiple studies on postmortem Alzheimer's disease (AD) brains have shown depleted neuropeptide content and morphological abnormalities of somatostatin (SS)-containing interneurons in the hippocampus and the cerebral cortex. 4. 4. Isolation and characterization of genes within the region for multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 on chromosome 11q13

    Författare :Jacob Lagercrantz; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1 MEN1 ; Chromosome 11q13; Phospholipase C Beta 3 gene PLCB3 ; Phospholipase C Beta 3 Neighbouring Gene PNG ; Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor VEGF ; VEGF Related Factor gene VRF .;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes the investigations of three genes isolated from the locus for multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) within the chromosomal region 11q13. As a common strategy for all three genes, the cDNA was sequenced, the genomic structure characterized, and the expression pattern analyzed by Northern blotting on human tissues and by in situ RNA hybridization on slides from rodent embryos. 5. 5. Arachidonic acid metabolism in corneal epithelial cells : Identification of lipoxygenase isoforms

    Författare :Maria Liminga; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Cornea; cDNA cloning; lipoxygenase; liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry; organ culture; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : The metabolism of arachidonic acid in the human cornea was investigated and compared with the metabolism in cattle and primates. All three species showed significant arachidonic acid metabolism inthe epithelium, whereas the activity in the stroma and the endothelium was low or undetectable. LÄS MER
