  1. 1. Fishing for sustainability : Towards transformation of seagrass-associated small-scale fisheries

    Författare :Sieglind Wallner-Hahn; Maricela de la Torre-Castro; Christina Hicks; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; small-scale fisheries; co-management; social-ecological systems; ecosystem services; institutions; transformation; seagrass meadows; destructive gear; food-web interactions; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Small-scale fisheries employ many millions of people around the world, and are particularly important in developing countries, where the dependency on marine resources is high and livelihood diversification options are scarce. In many areas of the world however, small-scale fisheries are at risk which threatens the food security and wellbeing of coastal people. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The birds in the Iliad. Identities, interactions and functions

    Författare :Karin Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; ancient ornithology; birds; bird symbolism; divination; double motivation; divine intervention; Homer s Iliad; identity; messenger; metaphorical utterances; oral tradition; parallelism; semiotics; species interactions; transformation; transmitter; Trojan war;

    Sammanfattning : As the topic of this study embraces and entwines what is routinely divided into two separate categories, “nature” and “culture”, the birds in the Iliad challenge modern scientific division and in some ways, our thinking. They are simultaneously birds, signs and symbols. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Speciation analysis of butyl- and phenyltin compounds in environmental samples by GC separation and atomic spectrometric detection

    Författare :Dong Nguyen Van; Wolfgang Frech; Anders Cedergren; Erwin Rosenberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organotin speciation analysis; species-specific isotope dilution; inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry; single isotope spike; multi-isotope spike; redistribution; species transformation; preparative liquid chromatography; gas chromatography; line source atomic absorption spectrometry; continuum source atomic absorption spectrometry; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The main goal of the work presented in this thesis is to improve the reliability of existing methods for speciation analysis of organotin compounds Species-specific isotope dilution (SSID) calibration in combination with gas chromatography – inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was used to investigate the transformation of phenyltin species during sample preparation. Isotope-enriched phenyltin species were synthesized from corresponding isotope-enriched tin metals. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Sulphonamide Resistance in Neisseria meningitidis and Commensal Neisseria Species

    Författare :Yvonne Qvarnström; Göte Swedberg; Dan Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; sulphonamide resistance; Neisseria; natural transformation; adaptive evolution; substrate channelling; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases; Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Extensive use of the sulphonamide drugs against the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis has resulted in drug resistance development. Sulphonamide resistance in N. meningitidis is caused by alterations in the chromosomal folP gene, coding for DHPS (dihydropteroate synthase). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Functional aspects on the Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen 5

    Författare :Martin Dufva; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epstein-Barr Virus; EBV; B-cell; transformation; cDNA array; polyadenylation; transcription; cell cycle; apoptosis; two-hybrid system.;

    Sammanfattning : The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infects resting B-cells. This leads to an EBV driven transformation of the resting B-cell into a cell with an activated B-cell phenotype that proliferates indefinitely in vitro. Epstein-Barr Nuclear antigen 5 (EBNA5) is one out of six EBV encoded protein involved in transformation of resting B-cell. LÄS MER
