  1. 11. Influence of water conditions on growth and mineral nutrient uptake of native plants on clacareous soil

    Författare :Aparna Misra; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; agricultural hydrology; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; wet growing; wet dry cycles; soil solution; soil moisture; pH; nutrient poor soil; mineral nutrients; dry growing; Bicarbonate; calicole; Soil Science;

    Sammanfattning : The studies presented in Papers I to IV illustrate the importance of soil moisture in soil solution chemistry and response of native plants to the changes induced by change in moisture regime. With the help of glasshouse experiments I tried to study the influence of different treatments of soil moisture conditions on the mineral uptake by native plants of calcareous soil. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Soil compaction: effects on soil hydraulic properties and preferential water flow

    Författare :Mona Mossadeghi Björklund; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Soil compaction caused by passage of agricultural machinery over the surface is an issue in many agricultural soils with a high clay content. Compaction is known to modify soil pore structure and soil hydraulic properties, but can also affect the occurrence of preferential flow. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Wood-Decomposing Fungi: Soil colonization, effects on indigenous bacterial community in soil and hydroxyl radical production

    Författare :Karin Tornberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; hydroxyl radicals; fungal growth; interactions; soil colonization; bacterial community; soil; brown-rot fungi; wood-decomposing fungi; white-rot fungi; Ekologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The extracellular enzyme activities of wood-decomposing basidiomycetes are essential for wood degradation, but are also able to degrade various recalcitrant organic pollutants. The possible application of wood-decomposing fungi in bioremediation has increased the interest in understanding their growth and activity in soil. LÄS MER

  4. 14. The soil as a source material in archaeology. : Theoretical considerations and pragmatic applications

    Författare :Johan Linderholm; Roger Engelmark; Martin Bell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Environmental archaeology; Geoarchaeology; Prehistory; Soil phosphate; Magnetic susceptibility; Soil chemistry; Site formation processes; Soil erosion; Archaeology subjects; Arkeologiämnen; Archaeology; arkeologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with questions on various applications using soils and sediments as sources of information in archaeological research. Human environmental impact on soils and sediments, in terms of pollution, is a well known phenomenon as the industrialisation intensified during historical times and onwards and has left strong pollutive marks. 5. 15. Assessing Soil Functions for Sustainable Remediation of Contaminated Sites

    Författare :Yevheniya Volchko; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soil ecosystem services; Contaminated sites soil; minimum data set; remediation; sustainability assessment; soil quality indicators; soil functions;

    Sammanfattning : Soil contamination is a worldwide problem. Soil remediation is often carried out to reduce the risks posed by contaminants in the soil to human health and environment. Contaminant concentration is typically the only soil quality aspect maintained in remediation projects. LÄS MER
