1. The soil as a source material in archaeology. : Theoretical considerations and pragmatic applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with questions on various applications using soils and sediments as sources of information in archaeological research. Human environmental impact on soils and sediments, in terms of pollution, is a well known phenomenon as the industrialisation intensified during historical times and onwards and has left strong pollutive marks. 2. Bed filters for phosphorus removal in on-site wastewater treatment : Removal mechanisms and sustainability
Sammanfattning : For many surface waters, phosphorus (P) leaching is a serious problem that should be minimized to prevent eutrophication. In Sweden there is a demand for physical and technical development of high-performance P removal techniques to reduce phosphorus leaching from on-site wastewater treatment systems to the Baltic Sea. 3. Electroremediation of contaminated soil
Sammanfattning : Electroremediation was applied to contaminated soils in order to study the transport of metals and organic compounds by the external electric field. The electric field caused acidic conditions near the anode, so that copper, zinc, lead, nickel, cadmium, calcium and manganese were released from soil from a chlor-alkali site. LÄS MER
4. Organic acids in root exudates and soil solutions. Importance to calcicole and calcifuge behaviour of plants
Sammanfattning : Many vascular plant species are unable to colonise calcareous sites, the floristic composition of adjacent limestone and acid silicate soils differing markedly. The inability of these 'calcifuge' species to establish themselves and grow on limestone soil appears to mainly be related to their low capacity for solubilising and absorbing phosphate and/or iron from such soils. 5. Vanadium in soils : chemistry and ecotoxicity
Sammanfattning : Vanadium is a redox-sensitive metal that is released to soils by weathering and anthropogenic emissions. Swedish metallurgical slags are naturally high in vanadium and used as soil amendments and in road materials. However, understanding of vanadium chemistry and bioavailability in soils is limited.
