  1. 26. Function of contractile and cytoskeletal proteins in smooth muscle: Effects of hypertrophy and age and desmin removal in a transgenic animal

    Författare :Rolf Sjuve; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transgenic mouse; desmin; embryonic myosin; isoforms; myosin heavy chain; age; smooth muscle; hypertrophy; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In man, the urinary bladder responds to an urinary outflow obstruction with a pronounced dilatation and growth of the bladder wall. This clinical situation can be mimicked in rat by creation of a partial urinary outflow obstruction and the papers included in the present thesis use this animal model to address questions regarding the adaptive changes in the smooth muscle of the growing bladder. 2. 27. Interactions between mast cells and smooth muscle in asthma models

    Författare :Lisa Sjöberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Allergic asthma is the major phenotype of asthma and is characterized by specific responses to allergens as well as airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), inflammation and remodelling. Mast cells and airway smooth muscle cells (ASM) play an important role in the allergic airway response and there are several indications that a cross-talk exists between these two cell types contributing to asthma pathogenesis. 3. 28. Effects of Biomechanical Stress on Gene Regulation in Vascular Cells

    Författare :Maria Carlström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :shear stress; intraluminal pressure; endothelium; gene expression; DNA microarray; real-time RT-PCR; reference genes; smooth muscle cells; P2 receptors; TNF-alpha; urokinase-type plasminogen activator;

    Sammanfattning : The vascular vessel wall is constantly exposed to biomechanical forces, such as shear and tensile stress. Biomechanical forces are important for several physiological and pathological processes and have been shown to regulate a number of fundamental vascular functions, such as vascular tone and remodeling processes. 4. 29. Smooth muscle hypertrophy and the IGF-system

    Författare :Yun Chen; David R. Clemmons; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin-like growth factor-! (IGF-I) has both metabolic and mitogenic effects on smooth muscle cells (SMCs). The effects of IGF-I are modified by a group of binding proteins (IGFBPs). The present study was devoted to smooth muscle hypertrophy and the IGF-system in smooth muscle under different conditions. 5. 30. Regulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase - Consequences in experimental models of bladder disease

    Författare :Rebecka Johansson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; smooth muscle-myosin heavy chain; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; farmakognosi; farmaci; actin; BDNF; Rho; aminoguanidine; TNF-alpha; IL-1beta; hypertrophy; differentiation; smooth muscle; bladder; nitric oxide; inducible nitric oxide synthase; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression is associated with various pathophysiological conditions in the lower urinary tract. The aims of this thesis have been to investigate the regulation of iNOS in bladder smooth muscle cells and the consequences on neuromuscular regulation, cell growth and differentiation. LÄS MER
