16. Chemoattractant receptors in drug discovery : FPR2 and CCR2-two potential targets
Sammanfattning : Chemoattractants and chemoattractant receptors have many important functions in multicellular organisms, not least for their role in regulating migration of leukocytes. The receptors are also involved in many pathologies and they have, since they were cloned in the 1990ies, been regarded as attractive targets for development of drugs against cancer, viral infections, and inflammatory/autoimmune diseases. 17. Sex and stress steroid modulation of GABA mediated chloride ion flux in rat CNS
Sammanfattning : Background: Sex and stress steroids are metabolized to 3a-hydroxy-pregnane-steroid metabolites such as allopregnanolone (Allo) and tetrahydrodeoxycorticosterone (THDOC). Allo and THDOC are neuroactive steroids that are metabolized in the brain and act in brain as potent positive GABAA receptor function modulators. LÄS MER
18. GABA-, glycine- and glutamate-induced currents in rat medial preoptic neurons : functional interactions and modulation by capsaicin
Sammanfattning : The medial preoptic nucleus (MPN) of the hypothalamus plays a major role in many functions involved in maintaining bodily homeostasis, such as thermoregulation and osmoregulation, as well as in the control of complex behaviours, e.g. sexual behaviour. LÄS MER
19. On Fever Mechanisms & Preoptic Signalling
Sammanfattning : Fever, a 1-4 °C elevation of the body temperature, is part of the systemic inflammatory response to infection or tissue damage, and it is believed to be a potent host defence. The underlying physiological mechanisms of the febrile response are one of the two main objectives in this thesis, where studies conducted in whole animals (rats and mice), chiefly aimed at clarifying the cytokine cascade in fever. 20. Sensory neuropeptides and nitric oxide in nasal vascular regulation
Sammanfattning : The role of sensory neuropeptides and nitric oxide in vascular regulation was investigated in the pig nasal mucosa in vivo using arterial blood flow measurements and acoustic rhinometry for analysis of capacitance function. Moreover, the effects of heavy physical exercise, a-adrenoceptor agonists, nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibition, L-arginine, nitric oxide (NO) gas, histamine and capsaicin on nasal cavity NO levels and nasal cavity volume, were investigated in healthy subjects.
