  1. 21. Physiological and pathophysiological regulation of ECL-cell activity

    Författare :Maria Lundgren; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacy; toxicology; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; Gastroenterologi; endothelin; gastrin; ischemia-reperfusion; Physiology; Fysiologi; Gastro-enterology; pancreastatin; histamine; microdialysis; ECL-cell; stomach; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The ECL cells are endocrine/paracrine cells located in the acid-producing part of the stomach. They produce and secrete histamine and chromogranin A-derived peptides in response to circulating gastrin. Mobilized histamine stimulates acid secretion from adjascent parietal cells. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Cardiovascular beta-adrenergic signaling : Maturation and programming effects of hypoxia in a chicken model

    Författare :Isa Lindgren; Jordi Altimiras; Eduardo Villamor; Laura Bennet; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Despite the importance of β-adrenergic receptors (βARs) in cardiovascular disease, not much is known about how prenatal hypoxia effects βAR signaling in the postnatal animal. Thus, the aim of this thesis was to characterize the pre- and postnatal maturation of the cardiovascular βARs and the effects of chronic prenatal hypoxia on βAR signaling in the embryo and adult animal using the chicken as experimental model. 3. 23. Noradrenergic augmentation strategies in the pharmacological treatment of depression and schizophrenia : an experimental study

    Författare :Love Linnér; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The pharmacological treatment of depression and schizophrenia, two major psychiatric disorders, is largely based on modulation of central monoaminergic neurotransmission. However, currently available pharmacological treatment alternatives possess a relatively modest clinical efficacy, making them less than optimal. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Role of caveolin-1 in brown adipose tissue

    Författare :Charlotte L. Mattsson; Barbara Cannon; Paul Pilch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; caveolin; brown adipose tissue; metabolism; signaling; Physiology; Fysiologi; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Caveolae are 50-100 nm invaginations in the plasma membrane. Caveolae and the protein caveolin-1 (Cav1) have been shown to be important in many signaling pathways in different cell types; however, in some cell types caveolae and Cav1 do not seem to affect the investigated signaling pathways. 5. 25. Signal transduction and calcium sensitivity of smooth muscle contraction

    Författare :Johan Bonnevier; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Physiology; hypertrophy; CPI-17; MYPT1; myosin phosphatase; Rho kinase; PKC; smooth muscle; cGK;

    Sammanfattning : Smooth muscles are components of several physiologically important organs and often involved in disease. Smooth muscle contraction is regulated by variations in intracellular [Ca2+]; increased levels activate the myosin light chain kinase (MLCK) which phosphorylates myosin and initiates contraction.
