1. Complement receptor-mediated signal transduction in human neutrophils : A role for protein kinase C in the phagocytic process
Sammanfattning : The neutrophil granulocyte comprises the first line of human defense against invading microorganisms. A versatile motile machinery enables the cell to migrate to the inflammatory site and there engulf and destroy the pathogens by phagocytosis. LÄS MER
2. Adipocyte phosphatases and the antilipolytic action of insulin
Sammanfattning : Adipose tissue is the main site of energy storage of the body and an important endocrine organ. Knowledge of the regulation of fat metabolism and the endocrine factors secreted by the adipocyte is crucial for the understanding of diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Insulin is the main antilipolytic hormone. LÄS MER
3. Cyclic Nucleotide Phosphodiesterase 3B: Regulation in rat adipocytes and 3T3-L1 cells
Sammanfattning : Insulin stimulation of rat adipocytes results in phosphorylation and activation of the cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase 3B (PDE3B), a key enzyme in the antilipolytic signalling pathway of this hormone. In this thesis, the site phosphorylated in PDE3B upon stimulation of rat adipocytes with insulin and/or the beta-adrenergic agonist, isoproterenol is identified. LÄS MER
4. Protein phosphorylation in plant mitochondria
Sammanfattning : Protein phosphorylation in the subcompartments of plant mitochondria was investigated by labelling with [gamma-32P]ATP and by SDS-PAGE/autoradiography. About 20 proteins in inside-out inner mitochondrial membranes from potato tubers were phosphorylated by endogenous protein kinases when incubated with [gamma-32P]ATP. LÄS MER
5. Hormone-Sensitive Lipase and Protein Kinase B; Molecular characterization in testis, adipose tissue and pancreatic beta cells
Sammanfattning : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) and protein kinase B (PKB) are enzymes that in different ways are associated with lipid metabolism. While HSL is the well-known lipolytic enzyme responsible for hydrolysis of stored triacylglycerols in adipose tissue, PKB is a recently identified serine/threonine protein kinase, ubiquitously expressed and involved in signal transduction pathways induced by insulin and growth factors.
