  1. 1. Aortic Valve Replacement: The Influence of Prosthesis-Patient Mismatch for Left Ventricular Remodeling, Cardiac Function and Survival

    Författare :Shahab Nozohoor; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prosthesis-Patient Mismatch; Left Ventricular Remodeling; Survival; Aortic valve replacement;

    Sammanfattning : The best valve substitute for aortic valve replacement (AVR) in terms of hemodynamic performance, durability, incidence of complications, and survival remains the subject of much debate. It has been suggested that valve performance is influenced by the potentially modifiable variable prosthesis-patient mismatch (PPM). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Registry-Based Studies in Adult Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Sweden : Survival and Quality of Life

    Författare :Emma Bergfelt Lennmyr; Helene Hallböök; Martin Höglund; Jan Maxwell Nørgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia; Philadelphia Chromosome; Overall Survival; Population-based; Quality Registry; Relapse; Patient-Reported Outcome; Health-Related Quality of Life; Depression;

    Sammanfattning : Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a common child malignancy, also constitutes a minor fraction of adult cancer with approximately 50 new cases per year in Sweden. While the five-year overall survival (OS) in pediatric ALL is more than 90%, the prognosis in adults is dismal. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Ovarian cancer. Biomarkers, surgical outcome and survival

    Författare :Pia Leandersson; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epitelial äggstokscancer; biomarkörer; kirurgi; incidens; överlevnad; epithelial ovarian cancer; biomarkers; ovarian cancer surgery; incidence; survival;

    Sammanfattning : Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common female cancer worldwide and the most lethal of the gynaecologic malignancies. Around 700 women are diagnosed in Sweden per year. Due to vague symptoms most of the patients are diagnosed with late-stage epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and prognosis is poor, with a five-year survival of 49%. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Impact of disease and treatment on body weight and eating in patients with head and neck cancer : experiences from a multicenter study

    Författare :Sandra Ottosson; Göran Laurell; Cecilia Olsson; Björn Zackrisson; Elisabeth Kjellén; Antti Mäkitie; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Head and neck cancer; weight loss; body mass index; tube feeding; radiation therapy; survival; treated volume; swallowing dysfunction; patient experience.; oto-rhino-laryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology;

    Sammanfattning : Background Nutritional deterioration in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) has a multifactorial etiology mainly associated with tumor and treatment related factors. The objective of the present thesis was to investigate the impact of the disease and treatment on body weight and eating in patients with HNC treated with radiation therapy (RT) as the single modality treatment or as preoperative RT by analyzing body weight and body mass index (BMI) over time, predictive factors for weight loss and BMI, weight loss and BMI as prognostic factors for survival, and by studying the patients’ own experience of food and eating. 5. 5. Home Mechanical Ventilation in Sweden. Demography, Indications, Clinical Effects and Survival

    Författare :Michael Laub; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; home mechanical ventilation; Andningsorganen; Respiratory system; causes of death; selection criteria; clinical effects; prevalence; temporal changes; survival; Chronic respiratory failure hypoventilation;

    Sammanfattning : Home mechanical ventilation in patients with chronic respiratory failure secondary to several different diseases has become widely acceptable as the provision of ventilatory support can provide symptomatic relief and increase life expectancy. Aims: To study the selection criteria underlying the initiation of home mechanical ventilation and to quantify the effects of in relation to blood gases and lung function; to examine temporal changes in treatment prevalence in Sweden; to study survival and causes of death and demonstrate possible related impact factors.
