  1. 1. Biological effects of high energy radiation and ultra high dose rates

    Författare :Björn Zackrisson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiobiology; 50 MV x-rays; 50 MeV electrons; in vitro; in vivo; RBE; OER; ultra high dose-rate; radiobiological models; model selection; models of stochastic processes;

    Sammanfattning : Recently a powerful electron accelerator, 50 MeV race-track microtron, has been taken into clinical use. This gives the opportunity to treat patients with higher x-ray and electron energies than before. Furthermore, treatments can be performed were the entire fractional dose can be delivered in parts of a second. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Clinical application of intensity and energy modulated radiotherapy with photon and electron beams

    Författare :Xiangkui Mu; Björn Zackrisson; Mikael Karlsson; Thomas Björk-Eriksson; Erik Blomquist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Radiotherapy; IMXT; IMET; IMPT; proton beams; electron beams; treatment planning; cancer induction; side-effects; fraction time; intensity modulated radiotherapy; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : In modern, advanced radiotherapy (e.g. intensity modulated photon radiotherapy, IMXT) the delivery time for each fraction becomes prolonged to 10-20 minutes compared with the conventional, commonly 2-5 minutes. The biological effect of this prolongation is not fully known. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Patient experiences of the radiotherapy process and treatment

    Författare :Kristina Olausson; Björn Zackrisson; Lena Sharp; Ulrika Östlund; Birgitta Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; radiotherapy; radiation skin reactions; patient experience; treatment environment; anxiety; person-centred care; questionnaire.; onkologi; Oncology;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundMost cancer patients undergo external radiotherapy (RT) at some stage during their treatment trajectory. RT is often associated with unfamiliar procedures where the technical environment, side effects and interaction with staff seem to play a major role in the patient’s treatment experience. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Energy and intensity modulated radiation therapy with electrons

    Författare :Lennart Olofsson; Mikael Karlsson; Magnus Karlsson; Björn Zackrisson; Erik Traneus; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiation sciences; Radiation therapy; Conformal therapy; IMRT; Electrons; Electron treatment head; Electron MLC; Bremsstrahlung reduction; Integral dose; Penumbra; Output factor; Strålningsvetenskap; Radiation biology; Strålningsbiologi; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years intensity modulated radiation therapy with photons (xIMRT) has gained attention due to its ability to reduce the dose in the tissues close to the tumour volume. However, this technique also results in a large low dose volume. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Impact of disease and treatment on body weight and eating in patients with head and neck cancer : experiences from a multicenter study

    Författare :Sandra Ottosson; Göran Laurell; Cecilia Olsson; Björn Zackrisson; Elisabeth Kjellén; Antti Mäkitie; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Head and neck cancer; weight loss; body mass index; tube feeding; radiation therapy; survival; treated volume; swallowing dysfunction; patient experience.; oto-rhino-laryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology;

    Sammanfattning : Background Nutritional deterioration in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) has a multifactorial etiology mainly associated with tumor and treatment related factors. The objective of the present thesis was to investigate the impact of the disease and treatment on body weight and eating in patients with HNC treated with radiation therapy (RT) as the single modality treatment or as preoperative RT by analyzing body weight and body mass index (BMI) over time, predictive factors for weight loss and BMI, weight loss and BMI as prognostic factors for survival, and by studying the patients’ own experience of food and eating.
