  1. 6. Developmental Aspects of Drug Transport Across the Blood-Brain Barrier

    Författare :Jörgen Bengtsson; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Ann-Cathrin Engwall; Sven Björkman; Elizabeth C.M. de Lange; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood-brain barrier; development; active transport; tight junction proteins; microdialysis; recovery; morphine; nitrofurantoin; Bcrp; microarray; real-time PCR; in vitro; in vivo; LC-MS MS; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi;

    Sammanfattning : The developmental aspect of drug transport across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) was investigated. Microdialysis was used to study unbound morphine BBB transport at different ages in sheep. An in vitro study was performed to find differentially expressed genes in brain capillary-rich fractions of the brain in rats of different ages. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Regulation of Duodenal Mucosal Barrier Function and Motility : The Impact of Melatonin

    Författare :Anna Sommansson; Markus Sjöblom; Olof Nylander; Oliver Bachmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 51Cr-EDTA; bicarbonate secretion; duodenum; enteric nervous system; enterochromaffin cell; ethanol; hexamethonium; in vivo; mecamylamine; motility; mucosal permeability; parecoxib; rat; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The duodenal mucosa is regularly exposed to acid, digestive enzymes and ingested noxious agents. It is thus critical to maintain a protective barrier to prevent the development of mucosal injury and inflammation, which are often observed in situations when barrier function is impaired. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Inflammation in the immature brain: The role of Toll like receptors

    Författare :Linnea Stridh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hypoxia-ischemia; immature brain; inflammation; innate immunity; Toll-like receptors;

    Sammanfattning : Infection/inflammation and/or hypoxia-ischemia (HI) are major causes of perinatal brain injury. Toll-like receptors (TLRs), important components of innate immunity, have been shown to be involved in brain injury, both after infectious and endogenous, non-infectious, stimuli. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Nutritional effects of barley products — Mechanisms of action in the intestinal tract

    Författare :Yadong Zhong; Kemicentrum Centrum för preventiv livsmedelsforskning; []
    Nyckelord :dietary fibre; malting; probiotics; high-fat diets; short-chain fatty acids; gut microbiota; low-grade inflammation; gene expression; Barley;

    Sammanfattning : Barley is one of the most important crops in the world. Although it is mainly used as the raw material for the production of beer and animal feed, it has recently attracted interest from nutritionists and consumers, due to its high content of dietary fibre, especially β-glucan, and its relation to various positive health effects. 5. 10. Pathogenesis of an emerging pathogen : Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus

    Författare :Anne-Marie Connolly-Andersen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Epithelial cells represent the first barrier to viral infection and the site of viral entry and release is often intimately connected with viral spread and pathogenesis. The plasma membrane of epithelial cells is polarized into an apical and basolateral domain separated by tight junctions (TJs). LÄS MER
