  1. 1. Intestinal Gene Expression Profiling and Fatty Acid Responses to a High-fat Diet

    Författare :Jonathan Cedernaes; Helgi B Schiöth; Robert Fredriksson; Anders Jacobsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adhesion GPCR; delta-5 desaturase; delta-6 desaturase; desaturase index; Diet-induced obesity; estimated desaturase activity; fatty acid composition; gas chromatography; gastrointestinal tract; G-protein coupled receptor; high-fat diet; intestine; linoleic acid; liver; mRNA expression; palmitoleic acid; plasma; phospholipids; proximodistal; RT-qPCR; solute carrier; SCD-1; SCD-16; SCD-18; stearoyl-CoA desaturase; subcutaneous adipose tissue; subsection; triacylglycerols.; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik; Nutrition; Nutrition; Näringslära; Nutrition;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract (GIT) regulates nutrient uptake, secretes hormones and has a crucial gut flora and enteric nervous system. Of relevance for these functions are the G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and the solute carriers (SLCs). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Nutritional effects of barley products — Mechanisms of action in the intestinal tract

    Författare :Yadong Zhong; Kemicentrum Centrum för preventiv livsmedelsforskning; []
    Nyckelord :dietary fibre; malting; probiotics; high-fat diets; short-chain fatty acids; gut microbiota; low-grade inflammation; gene expression; Barley;

    Sammanfattning : Barley is one of the most important crops in the world. Although it is mainly used as the raw material for the production of beer and animal feed, it has recently attracted interest from nutritionists and consumers, due to its high content of dietary fibre, especially β-glucan, and its relation to various positive health effects. 3. 3. Glycerol esters of butyric and valeric acids counteract diet-related disorders : Prevention of metabolic disturbances induced by high-fat intake

    Författare :Thao Duy Nguyen; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; short-chain fatty acids; lipid metabolism; cholesterol; gut microbiota; high-fat diet; inflammation; succinic acid; intestinal permeability; tight junction proteins; gut-brain barrier; apolipoprotein E; rats;

    Sammanfattning : Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), gut metabolites formed from indigestible dietary components by the colonic microbiota, are associated with numerous health effects, and may be responsible for the beneficial effects, at least in part, associated with dietary fibre. High-fat diets are known to cause low-grade inflammation in the body, but SCFAs are suggested to counteract unfavourable effects induced by these types of diets. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effects of palatable diets on appetite regulation, appetite peptides and neurogenesis

    Författare :Andreas Lindqvist; Aptitkontroll; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sekretion; Endokrinologi; diabetologi; Appetite regulation; Ghrelin; Obesity; Leptin; Endocrinology; diabetology; secreting systems;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is increasing throughout the world at an epidemic rate, partly due to increased consumption of diets rich in fat and/or sugar. Ghrelin and leptin are hormones, originating from the periphery, involved in the regulation of food intake and of maintaining energy homeostasis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Alterations in peripheral glucocorticoid metabolism : effects of weight changes

    Författare :Kotryna Simonyté; Cecilia Mattsson; Bo Angelin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 11ß Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1; obesity; glucocorticoids; cortisol; phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase; adipose tissue; liver; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: An important role has been suggested for tissue-specific glucocorticoid metabolism in the development of obesity and its complications. 11ß hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (11ßHSD1) is an enzyme that catalyzes the interconversion of biologically inactive cortisone to active cortisol, thereby regulating its access to glucocorticoid receptors in target tissues.
