  1. 1. High-sensitivity Radioactive Xenon Monitoring and High-accuracy Neutron-proton Scattering Measurements

    Författare :Cecilia Johansson; Jan Blomgren; Nils Olsson; Allena Opper; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Monte Carlo simulations; MCNP; xenon detection; detector response; neutron detection; elastic scattering; differential cross section; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Two aspects of applied nuclear physics have been studied in this thesis; Monte Carlo simulations for high-sensitivity monitoring of radioactive xenon and high-accuracy neutron-proton scattering measurements for neutron physics applications and fundamental physics. The Monte Carlo simulations have been performed for two systems for detection of radioactive xenon, using the MCNP code. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Neutron-Deuteron Scattering and Three-Body Interactions

    Författare :Philippe Mermod; Jan Blomgren; Steven Vigdor; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Nuclear physics; three-body force; neutron; deuteron; elastic scattering; angular distribution; Faddeev equations; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : High-precision differential cross section data of the neutron-deuteron elastic scattering reaction at 95 MeV are presented. The neutron-proton scattering differential cross section was also measured and used as a reference to allow an accurate absolute normalization of the neutron-deuteron data. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Efficient sampling of Bayesian posteriors and predictive distributions in χEFT

    Författare :Isak Svensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chiral effective field theory; Bayesian parameter estimation; nuclear physics; Markov chain Monte Carlo; two-nucleon scattering;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I employ Bayesian statistics to quantify parametric and epistemic uncertainties in chiral effective field theories (χEFT) and propagate these forward to predictions of observables in low-energy nuclear physics. Two primary sources of uncertainty---experimental errors and the theoretical error induced by the truncation of the EFT at up to next-to-next-to-leading-order---are modelled and accounted for in the posterior distributions of the unknown low-energy constants (LECs) that govern interaction strengths in χEFT. 4. 4. Exploring the Exotic Experimental Investigations far from Stability

    Författare :Karin Markenroth; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cross sections; driplines; inbeam spectroscopy; 10; unbound nuclei; 8 B; 11; 17; longitudinal momentum distributions; breakup reactions; projectile fragmentation; resonances; 19 C; elastic resonance scattering; halo nuclei; 13 N;

    Sammanfattning : The exploration of exotic nuclei is one of the most intriguing and fastest expanding fields in modern nuclear physics. In the extreme conditions of unsymmetric neutron-proton distributions and small binding energies many nuclear phenomena not encountered closer to stability have revealed themselves, often as a surprise to the nuclear physics community, the prime example being the development of halo structures as the binding energy diminishes. 5. 5. Utilization of Low Voltage D-T Neutron Generators in Neutron Physics Studies

    Författare :Somsorn Singkarat; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; D-T neutron generator; double-differential cross-section DDX ; n-1H scattering; directional neutron detector; time-of-flight method; natural iron; scintillation fibers; neutron energy converter;

    Sammanfattning : In a small nuclear laboratory of a developing country a low voltage D-T neutron generator can be a very useful scientific apparatus. Such machines have been used successfully for more than 40 years in teaching and scientific research. LÄS MER
