1. High-sensitivity Radioactive Xenon Monitoring and High-accuracy Neutron-proton Scattering Measurements
Sammanfattning : Two aspects of applied nuclear physics have been studied in this thesis; Monte Carlo simulations for high-sensitivity monitoring of radioactive xenon and high-accuracy neutron-proton scattering measurements for neutron physics applications and fundamental physics. The Monte Carlo simulations have been performed for two systems for detection of radioactive xenon, using the MCNP code. LÄS MER
2. Single-photon multiple ionisation of atoms and molecules investigated by coincidence spectroscopy : Site-specific effects in acetaldehyde and carbon dioxide
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, multiple ionisation processes of free atoms and molecules upon single photon absorption are studied by means of a versatile multi-electron-ion coincidence spectroscopy method based on a magnetic bottle, primarily in combination with synchrotron radiation. The latter offered the possibility to access not only valence but also core levels, revealing processes, which promote the target systems into different charge states. LÄS MER
3. Clinical Bedside Studies of Cerebral Blood Flow in Severe Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Using Xenon CT
Sammanfattning : Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is frequently complicated by delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI), contributing to poor outcome. Particularly for patients in poor neurological state, prediction of the acute clinical course is difficult, as is the early detection of DCI. LÄS MER
4. Surface Coatings as Xenon Diffusion Barriers for Improved Detection of Clandestine Nuclear Explosions
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates surface coatings as xenon diffusion barriers on plastic scintillators. The motivation for the work is improved radioxenon detection systems, used within the verification regime of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).One type of radioxenon detection systems used in this context is the Swedish SAUNA system. 5. Inference on Dark Matter in Effective Field Theories : From XENON1T towards XENONnT: Chiral effective field theory analysis of nuclear recoils, single electrons and uncommon background modelling
Sammanfattning : Cosmological and astronomical observations show that most of the matter in the Universe is dark. This dissertation provides an overview of the dark matter evidence, and focuses on the particle dark matter hypothesis, describing possible particle candidates, concentrating on the Weakly Interactive Massive Particles (WIMPs).
