1. Mitochondrial Iron Metabolism : Study of mitoferrin in Drosophila melanogaster
Sammanfattning : Iron has a dualistic character. On the one hand it is essential for the life of most organisms, on the other hand it is involved in the generation of reactive oxygen species that are implicated in diseases and aging. LÄS MER
2. Drivers of increasing iron concentrations in freshwaters
Sammanfattning : Iron (Fe) concentrations are increasing in freshwaters (lakes and streams) in Sweden, as well as in other regions in northern Europe. Together with increasing concentrations of organic matter, Fe is contributing to the ongoing browning of freshwaters, which may have serious ecological consequences and implications for ecosystem services. 3. Iron in Haem Biosynthesis. Structural Studies of Ferrochelatase and Frataxin
Sammanfattning : Ferrochelatase catalyses the synthesis of heme by inserting Fe(II) into protoporphyrin IX. The structure of ferrochelatase from yeast has been determined (2.4 Å). The structure is homodimeric with each of the monomer made up of two Rossmann type domains with an active-site cleft between them. LÄS MER
4. Biomimetic Iron Complexes involved in Oxygenation and Chlorination : A Theoretical Study
Sammanfattning : Biomimetic chemistry is directed towards the simulation of enzymatic reactivity with synthetic analogues. In this thesis a quantum chemical method has been employed to study the mechanism of highly reactive iron-oxo complexes involved in oxygenation and chlorination of organic substrates. LÄS MER
5. Iron catalyzed C-C coupling reactions - mechanistic investigations
Sammanfattning : The mechanism of the iron catalyzed cross coupling of aryl electrophiles with alkyl Grignard reagents was studied. The reaction proceeds via a rate-limiting oxidative addition of the aryl halide to an Fe(I) complex generated in situ. A transmetalation from an aryl Grignard reagent occurs either before or after the oxidative addition. LÄS MER
