  1. 6. Neuroprotection and axonal regeneration after peripheral nerve injury

    Författare :Dag Welin; Lev N. Novikov; Lars B. Dahlin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dorsal root ganglion; Motoneuron; Axonal reaction; Peripheral nerve injury; Nerve regeneration; N-acetylcysteine; Hand surgery; Handkirurgi; Anatomy; Anatomi; anatomi; Human Anatomy; handkirurgi; hand surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Following microsurgical reconstruction of injured peripheral nerves, severed axons are able to undergo spontaneous regeneration. However, the functional result is always unsatisfactory with poor sensory recovery and reduced motor function. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Spinal motoneurons and molecules related to neurotrophic function after axon injury

    Författare :Henrik Hammarberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; spinal cord; motoneuron; axotomy; survival; regeneration; MHC 1; leukocyte; cell culture; mRNA expression;

    Sammanfattning : The capacity of motoneurons to survive and regenerate new axons after injuries such as axotomy depends on a great variety of parameters. After sciatic nerve transection (SNT) in adult rats and to some extent after a ventral funiculus lesion (VFL), many cells survive and regeneration is highly prioritized. LÄS MER

  3. 8. On laminins and laminin receptors and their roles in regeneration and myelination of the peripheral nerve

    Författare :Wilhelm Wallquist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Motoneuron; dorsal root ganglion neuron; integrin; laminin; Schwann cell; Sciatic nerve; regeneration; myelination; in situ hybridization; immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy.;

    Sammanfattning : One important prerequisite for successful axon regeneration is that appropriate extracellular molecules are available for outgrowing axons and that receptors for such molecules are found in the regenerating neuron. Laminin associated integrin subunits alpha3, alpha6, alpha7 and beta1 mRNAs are here shown to be present in rat motoneurons, and in the case of integrin subunits alpha7 and gamma1, also immunohistochemical (IHC) labelling of the proteins was demonstrated. 4. 9. Regulation of CGRP expression in rat spinal motoneurons

    Författare :Fredrik Piehl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; motoneuron; axotomy; peptides; CGRP; trophic factor; FGF; IGF; BDNF; CNTF; GAP-43; cell culture; plasticity; mRNAregulation; regeneration;

    Sammanfattning : The normal distribution and lesion-induced changes in the expression of neuropeptides and growth-related proteins, with special reference to calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP),were studied in the motor system of the rat. In addition, factors that influence the expression of CGRP in motoneurons were identified. LÄS MER

  5. 10. On amino acid neurotransmitters in the spinal cord motor nuclei

    Författare :Göran Örnung; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :neurotransmitter; aspartate; glutamate; GABA. glycine; homocysteate; taurine; ultrastructure; freeze-substitution; immunocytochemistry; bouton; synaptic input; motoneuron; strech reflex; spinal cord; cat. rat;

    Sammanfattning : Using pre- and post-embedding immunocytochemistry, the distribution of six amino acid neurotransmitter candidates, with special reference to y-amino-butyric acid (GABA), glycine and glutamate was examined in boutons apposing somata and dendrites in the lumbar motor nuclei of the cat spinal cord. The monosynaptic connection between muscle spindle I a afferents and motoneurons regarding content of neuroactive amino acid and complement of amino acid receptors in the postsynaptic membrane was studied in the rat.
