  1. 1. Expression profiling using manifold supports

    Författare :Anette Hagberg; Joakim Lundeberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; mRNA; expression; minimal residual disease MRD ; chronic myeloid leukemia CML ; recombinant human erythropoietin r-HuEpo ; anemia; insulin dependent diabetes mellitus IDDM ; transplantation; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Analyses of mRNA provides a condensed view of gene structure and quantitative analysis can reveal the induction of physiological or pathological gene expression programs. This thesis describes a new method for mRNA isolation, followed by sensitive real time detection via polymerase chain reaction (PCR), in order to quantitate transcripts of interest. LÄS MER

  2. 2. High-resolution Studies of mRNA Expression in Brain : A Search for Genes Differently Expressed in Schizophrenia

    Författare :Anja Castensson; Elena Jazin; Terence Speed; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; mRNA; gene expression; real-time RT-PCR; schizophrenia; 5-HT serotonin receptor 2C; brain; psychiatric genetics; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Gene expression differences between patients and controls can be used to find susceptibility genes and drug targets for a disease. High-resolution strategies are required because the differences between the investigated groups may be small and numerous factors may affect the mRNA quantity. LÄS MER

  3. 3. mRNA degradation factors as regulators of the gene expression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Mridula Muppavarapu; Tracy Nissan; Per Sunnerhagen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mRNA decapping; mRNA degradation; Pat1; Edc3; Lsm4; Lsm1-7; P bodies; Dcp2; Transcription; Ribosome biogenesis; Exosome.; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Messenger RNA degradation is crucial for the regulation of eukaryotic gene expression. It not only modulates the basal mRNA levels but also functions as a quality control system, thereby controlling the availability of mRNA for protein synthesis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Eosinophil Cationic Protein : Expression Levels and Polymorphisms

    Författare :Jonas Byström; Helene Rosenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Eosinophils; Neutrophils; Monocytes; Macrophages; mRNA; eosinophil cationic protein; DNA; polymorphism; Hodgkin Lymphoma; asthma; allergy; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) is usually associated with the eosinophil granulocyte. In this thesis the presence and production of this protein has been studied in two other cells. The circulating monocyte was found to contain ECP mRNA and small amounts of ECP, one thousand times less than that found in the eosinophil. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Xenograft Rejection : A Study of Cytokine mRNA Expression in Experimental Models

    Författare :Henrik Krook; Anthony Dorling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Type 1 diabetes; Parkinson’s disease; xenotransplantation; islets; neural tissue; heart; mRNA; cytokines; rejection.; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Acute cellular xenograft rejection of ICCs triggered mRNA expression of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1b and TNF-a), Th1 associated cytokines (IL-12p40, IL-2 and IFN-g) and Th2 associated cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10). The peak values and the kinetics of the mRNA expression indicated that acute cellular xenograft rejection is enhanced by the proinflammatory response and mediated by the Th1 associated response, whereas the function of the Th2 associated response most likely is to counteract the Th1 associated cytokines and thereby inhibit bystander damage by the delayed type hypersensitivity like rejection process.
