  1. 1. Signaling Mechanisms in the Neuronal Networks of Pain and Itch

    Författare :Katarzyna Rogoz; Klas Kullander; Malin Lagerström; Stephen McMahon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mouse genetics; neuronal network; glutamate; sensory neuron; dorsal root ganglion; pain; itch; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Glutamate is the essential neurotransmitters in pain pathways. The discovery of the vesicular glutamate transporters (VGLUT1-3) has been a fundamental step on the way to describe glutamate-dependent pain pathways. We used the Cre-lox system to construct conditional knockouts with deficient Vglut2 transmission in specific neuronal populations. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Genetic control of sensory neuron diversification

    Författare :Marina C M Franck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The somatosensory system of vertebrates transmits information from external and internal environments to the brain. This information relates to various modalities such as touch, temperature, itch and pain. The different modalities require a variety of subtypes of sensory neurons, tuned to detect and transmit specific stimuli. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regeneration of Peripheral Nerves. The role of protein kinases, with emphasis on neurotrophic factor stimulation

    Författare :Peter Wiklund; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NT-4; NT-3; NGF; MAPK; PKG; PKA; PKC; nodose ganglion; DRG; conditioning effect; neurotrophic factors; protein kinases; peripheral; nerve regeneration; BDNF; GDNF; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of protein kinases in peripheral nerve regeneration, with the use of dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and nodose ganglia explants from adult mice. The effects of neurotrophic factor stimulation and protein kinase inhibition were studied for long (days) and short term (minutes) effects. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Neuropeptides, 'gaseous' messengers and classic transmitters : electrophysiological and histochemical studies on coexistence and interactions in the nervous system

    Författare :Zhi-Qing David Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Dorsal root ganglion; galanin; hippocampus; 5-hydroxytryptamine; locus coeruleus; nerve injury; nitric oxide; noradrenaline.;

    Sammanfattning : The distribution and functional role of neuropeptides were studied, with special reference to galanin (GAL) and the free radical nitric oxide (NO). In developing systems GAL expression was observed already at E14 in trigeminal and dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons and at E15 in sensory epithelia in ear, eye and nose, as well as at E19 during bone formation. 5. 5. On laminins and laminin receptors and their roles in regeneration and myelination of the peripheral nerve

    Författare :Wilhelm Wallquist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Motoneuron; dorsal root ganglion neuron; integrin; laminin; Schwann cell; Sciatic nerve; regeneration; myelination; in situ hybridization; immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy.;

    Sammanfattning : One important prerequisite for successful axon regeneration is that appropriate extracellular molecules are available for outgrowing axons and that receptors for such molecules are found in the regenerating neuron. Laminin associated integrin subunits alpha3, alpha6, alpha7 and beta1 mRNAs are here shown to be present in rat motoneurons, and in the case of integrin subunits alpha7 and gamma1, also immunohistochemical (IHC) labelling of the proteins was demonstrated.
