  1. 1. Metastatic bone disease

    Författare :Rikard Wedin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :cytology; epidemiology; metastatic bone disease; pathologic fracture; prognosis; radiotherapy; skeletal metastasis; surgical therapy; survival; MIB; p53; ER; PgR;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: To evaluate epidemiology, prognosis and diagnostics in metastatic bone disease and identify risk factors for failure after operation for pathologic fracture. Patients: The study was based on patients treated for skeletal metastases, myeloma or lymphoma between 1986 and 1998 at the Oncology Service, Department of Orthopedics, Karolinska Hospital and on patients diagnosed with symptomatic skeletal metastases 1989-1994 in the Stockholm Region. 2. 2. The Palaeopathology of Kirchberg : Evidence of Deficiency, Inflammatory and Tumorous Disease in a Medieval Rural Population in Hessia, Germany

    Författare :Nikolaos Roumelis; Jan Storå; Michael Schultz; Pia Bennike; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Kirchberg; rural population; Middle Ages; palaeohistopathology; palaeopathology; microscopy; diagnosis; health; inflammatory disease; tumorous disease; micrometastases; deficiency disease; environment.; Archaeology; Arkeologi; osteoarkeologi; Osteoarchaeology;

    Sammanfattning : This study investigates the interaction of disease processes, disease and environment, female and male health as well as health and ageing in a medieval rural village population. For this purpose multiple skeletal indicators of health have been studied, including deficiency, inflammatory, infectious and tumorous disease. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Type IV collagen in breast and colorectal cancer : a potential biomarker of metastatic disease

    Författare :Moa Lindgren; Hanna Nyström; Ingrid Ljuslinder; Malin Sund; Kristian Pietras; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; colorectal liver metastases; breast cancer; breast cancer metastases; tumor marker; biomarker; stroma; type IV collagen;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) and metastatic breast cancer (mBC) are two leading causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Early detection of metastatic disease is critical, and sensitive, easily accessed and cost-effective biomarkers that can diagnose mBC and mCRC at an early stage would have high clinical value. 4. 4. Prediction of survival in prostate cancer : aspects on localised, locally advanced and metastatic disease

    Författare :David Robinson; Eberhard Varenhorst; Börje Ljungberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Protstate cancer; oncology; PSA diagnosisk; TNM classification; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: The clinical course of prostate cancer is highly variable and difficult to predict.Stage at presentation, grade and PSA at diagnosis are traditionally used to predict outcome. The aimof this thesis was to identify strategies for improved survival prediction in men with prostate cancer. LÄS MER

  5. 5. From Tissue to Mutations : Genetic Profiling of Colorectal Cancer

    Författare :Lucy Mathot; Tobias Sjöblom; Mats Nilsson; Alberto Bardelli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nucleic acid extraction; genotyping; targeted sequencing; mutation analysis; colorectal cancer; metastatic disease; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Comprehensive characterisation of the mutational landscapes of solid tumours is a multistep process involving the collection of suitable samples, the extraction of nucleic acids and the preparation of these materials for mutational analyses. In this thesis, I aimed to develop a streamlined process for the analysis of colorectal cancer (CRC) patient samples in order to identify novel mutations that hallmark the development of advanced disease.
