26. Impact of targeting MYC in metabolic reprogramming and differentiation of cancer
Sammanfattning : Alterations in several metabolic pathways due to increased energy and biomass demand, as consequence of the uncontrolled proliferation of cancer cells, is known as metabolic reprogramming. Mutations in tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes that initiate cancer development, are responsible directly and indirectly of the changes in major cellular energy production processes, including glycolysis, glutaminolysis, and lipid metabolism. 27. Cross-regulation between TGFβ/BMP Signalling and the metabolic LKB1 pathway
Sammanfattning : Cell signalling determines physiological responses to many cellular stimuli and environmental changes. The transforming growth factor-beta (TGFβ)/bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signalling pathways begin by binding of ligand to the heterodimeric receptor complex, followed by activation of Smads that translocate to the nucleus to regulate transcription of genes that further mediate cellular physiology. 28. Metabolic drug interactions in man : methodological aspects on in vivo studies
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate methodological aspects on in vivo metabolic drug interaction studies in man. Five pharmacokinetic studies in healthy persons or patients are presented. Together, they represent a set of model studies to evaluate the occurrence of, and extent of metabolic drug interactions in vivo. LÄS MER
29. Molecular mechanisms governing contraction-induced metabolic responses and skeletal muscle reprogramming
Sammanfattning : Physical exercise enhances skeletal muscle responsiveness to insulin and regulates metabolism by an insulin-independent mechanism. Elucidation of contraction-mediated molecular mechanisms is imperative for a better understanding of skeletal muscle metabolism and function, and may lead to the identification or validation of possible drug targets for the prevention or treatment of metabolic disorders. 30. Side-chain oxidized oxysterols as metabolic regulators in liver and brain
Sammanfattning : Oxysterols are oxygenated derivatives of cholesterol characterized by a very short half-life and their ability to pass lipophilic membranes easily, thus they are considered as important intermediates in cholesterol excretion pathways and its conversion to bile acids. The two major oxysterols in the circulation of human and mouse are 24S-hydroxycholesterol (24S-OH) and 27-hydroxycholesterol (27-OH), which are formed by the cytochrome P450 enzymes cholesterol 24-hydroxylase (CYP46A1) and sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27A1), respectively.
