1. The transferrin polymorphism : population genetics and associations with reproductive hazards and disease
Sammanfattning : Human serum transferrin (TF) carries iron from the intestine, reticuloendothelial system and liver parenchymal cells to proliferating cells in the body. TF is highly polymorphic, and previous findings of associations between TF types and reproductive hazards in different species suggest that the TF polymorphism may be involved in natural selection and susceptibility to disease. 2. Factors influencing transferrin receptor-mediated brain delivery : Evaluating preclinical antibody-based proteins for PET imaging in Alzheimer’s disease
Sammanfattning : Antibody-based proteins targeting amyloid-beta (Aβ) could be used as radioligands in positron emission tomography (PET) to study Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathology in the living brain. The prospective advantages of antibody-based PET are to detect pathology earlier, with higher sensitivity, and to evaluate treatment effects of emerging immunotherapies against Aβ. LÄS MER
3. Structural studies on human transferrin
Sammanfattning : This review is a dissertation and contains a summary of the following publications:I. J.-O Jeppsson and J. Sjöquist: Separation of Normal Human Transferrin into Two Fractions. LÄS MER
4. Affibody molecules for proteomic and therapeutic applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes generation and characterization of Affibody molecules with future applications in proteomics research, protein structure determinations, therapeutic treatment of disease and medical imaging for in vivo diagnostics. Affibody molecules are engineered affinity proteins developed by combinatorial protein engineering from the 58-residue protein A-derived Z domain scaffold. LÄS MER
5. Erythropoiesis in anemia of rencl failure and malignancy : Studies on erythropoietin, iron, and transferrin receptor : by Soheir Beshara
Sammanfattning : Erythropoietin (Epo) and iron are essential requirements for erythropoiesis. Serum transferrin receptor (S-TfR) is a marker of total erythropoiesis and tissue iron availability. In patients with renal insufficiency, successful renal transplantation leads to correction of anemia and improvement in erythropoiesis. LÄS MER
