  1. 11. Lipid Turnover in Plants and Yeast, A Study of Storage Lipid Synthesis and Lipid-Based Signalling in Plants and Yeast

    Författare :Maria Gustavsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry; turnover; plasma membrane; plant; PLA2; biosynthesis; S. cerevisiae; triacylglycerol;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, lipid biosynthesis is discussed focussing on the genes and enzymes involved in the final step of storage lipid synthesis, on the enzyme phospholipase A2, and on cell membrane lipid homeostasis. The investigation of lipid metabolism revealed that in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, there are four genes that are essential for the final step of storage lipid biosynthesis; ARE1, ARE2, DGA1, and LRO1. 2. 12. Cardiac lipids and their role in the diseased heart

    Författare :Ismena Mardani; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular disease; Lipid droplets; Perilipins; Lipid accumulation; Metabolism; GlcCer;

    Sammanfattning : Lipids play an essential role within the heart as they are involved in energy storage, membrane stability and signaling. Changes in cardiac lipid composition and utilization may thus have profound effects on cardiac function. Importantly, the diseased heart is associated with intracellular metabolic abnormalities, including accumulation of lipids. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Development of Nonlinear Microscopy for Studies of Metabolism and Tissue Engineering

    Författare :Madeleine Åkeson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; imaging; bacterial cellulose; nonlinear microscopy; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; yeast; C. elegans; Microscopy; lipid storage;

    Sammanfattning : Nonlinear microscopy techniques provide abilities for noninvasive and selective imaging of structural and chemical properties of biological systems. These techniques include coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy with the ability to selectively image molecular vibrations, second harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy which selectively images fiber structures, and third harmonic generation (THG) microscopy which is sensitive to interfaces between materials with different optical properties. 4. 14. Amylopectin - Interactions with Lipids and Proteins

    Författare :Henrik Lundqvist; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; binding isotherm; isothermal titration calorimetry; differential scanning calorimetry; retrogradation; alpha-lactalbumin; beta-lactoglobulin; whey protein; surfactant; lipid; exterior chain length; barley; potato; starch; amylopectin; amylose; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Lipids; steroids; membranes; Lipider; steroider; mebran;

    Sammanfattning : Starch is a common ingredient in many products, influencing properties such as viscosity, stability, sensory properties and appearance. These properties and how they change with time in the process called retrogradation are dependent on the structure of starch and its interaction with other components such as lipids and proteins. 5. 15. The advantages of being small : Glycosyltransferases in many dimensions and glycolipid synthesis in Mycoplasma Pneumoniae

    Författare :Maria Rosén Klement; Åke Wieslander; Christelle Breton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glycosyltransferase; lipid; membrane; glycolipid; ACC; PLS-DA; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The synthesis and breakdown of sugars is one of the most important functions in Nature. Consequently, sugar structures are used both as energy storage and as building blocks to stabilise and protect the cell. The formation of these structures is performed by glycosyltransferases (GT), an enzyme group structurally conserved within all kingdoms. LÄS MER
