1. The role of Smad7 and TRAF6 in Prostate Cancer Cell Invasion, Migration and Survival
Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor (TGF) β is a tumor suppressor during early tumor development, by inhibiting proliferation and inducing apoptosis. At later stages of cancer, it becomes a tumor promoter, and promotes tumor cell migration and invasion. TGFβ signals via its type II and type I receptors to several downstream signaling pathways. 2. TRAF6, a key regulator of TGFβ-induced oncogenesis in prostate cancer
Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with the incidence rapidly increasing in Europe over the past two decades. Reliable biomarkers for prostate cancer are currently unavailable. Thus, there is an urgent need for improved biomarkers to diagnose prostate cancer at an early stage and to determine the best treatment options. LÄS MER
3. TRAF6 stimulates TGFβ-induced oncogenic signal transduction in cancer cells
Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in men worldwide, with 10,000 new cases/year diagnosed in Sweden. In this context, there is an urgent need to identify new biomarkers to detect prostate cancer at an initial stage for earlier treatment intervention. LÄS MER
4. Vaginal commensal bacteria. Interactions with cervix epithelial and monocytic cells and influence on cytokines and secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor, SLPI
Sammanfattning : Vaginal commensal bacteria Interactions with cervix epithelial and monocytic cells and influence on cytokines and secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor, SLPI Louise Strömbeck Department of Infectious Medicine, Gothenburg University Abstract Lactobacillus is the predominant species of the vaginal microbiota in women of childbearing age. Lactobacilli are thought to contribute to the local immune defence by producing a variety of antimicrobial substances and, thereby, attenuate growth of other opportunistic bacteria. LÄS MER
5. Host control of intracellular bacterial infections
Sammanfattning : In this thesis various immune mechanisms regulating control of infections with the intracellular bacteria Listeria monocytogenes and Chlamydia pneumoniae have been studied. These bacteria infect macrophages in which they can successfully grow. However, macrophages are potent killers of intracellular bacteria. LÄS MER
