  1. 1. Anomalies in humoral immunity in the NOD mouse : contribution to the progression of type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Radha Thyagarajan; Kristina Lejon; Per-Arne Oldenborg; Susanna Cardell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 Diabetes; NOD mouse; B cells; IgE; TACI; BAFF; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse is widely used model Type 1 diabetes (T1D), a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by destruction of the insulin producing β cells in the islets of Langerhans by immune cells. The classical symptoms include increased glucose levels in urine and blood, frequent urination and enhanced thirst. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Islet insulin secretory patterns in diabetes and the role of UCP2

    Författare :Jian-Man Lin; Valdemar Grill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; type 1 diabetes; type 2 diabetes; NOD; GK; congenes; KKAy; human; islet; glucose; insulin release; oscillation; frequency; amplitude; oxidation; respiration; UCP2; western blot; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : During development of type 1 and type 2 diabetes plasma insulin patterns are altered. Since the islet insulin release pattern has been implicated in this development, insulin secretion from single islets was studied and linked to the islet protein levels of uncoupling protein-2 (UCP2). 3. 3. Aspects of T cell development contributing to autoimmunity

    Författare :Maria Carlsén; Diabetes - immunovirologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; FTOC; T cell development; Type 1 diabetes; p53; Insulin; NOD; Negative selection; TGF-β; Tolerance; Thymus; Conditional cre lox knock out; Autoimmunity;

    Sammanfattning : Autoimmunity, such as type 1 diabetes (T1D), arises as a result of tolerance breakdown against host tissues, i.e. the β-cells. Central tolerance is established during thymic T cell development and defects in key events during this process could contribute to the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. LÄS MER

  5. 5. B cell deviations and type 1 diabetes in the NOD mouse

    Författare :Mia Sundström; Kristina Lejon; Susanna Cardell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Autoimmunity; NOD mouse; Idd; TACI; Immune response; Immune complex; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the insulin producing β-cells in the pancreatic islets of Langerhans are selectively attacked by the immune system. The β-cells are destroyed resulting in a reduced or eliminated insulin production, which in turn lead to a high blood glucose level. LÄS MER
