  1. 16. Functional and Phenotypic Studies of Eosinophilic Granulocytes in Patients with Eosinophilic Esophagitis

    Författare :Christine Lingblom; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adults; children; corticosteroids; eosinophils; eosinophilic esophagitis; FOXP3; galectin-10; inflammation; T cell suppression;

    Sammanfattning : Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology, in which the esophagus is infiltrated by eosinophils and T cells. Topical corticosteroids are one of the treatment options for patients with EoE. The function of eosinophils in EoE is unknown, here we hypothesize that eosinophils serve as immunoregulatory cells. 2. 17. On the role of innate cell interactions in inflammation and leukemia

    Författare :Rebecca E Riise; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Innate immunity; neutrophils; NK cells; caspase-1; apoptosis; myeloid leukemia; ROS; immunotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammatory cells of the innate immune system launch rapid and powerful effector responses in the combat against infectious pathogens. However, these inflammatory mediators may cause excessive damage to the host and, therefore, require rigid control systems to maintain the delicate balance between prompt clearance of infections and the risk of developing immunopathology. 3. 18. The immunomodulatory function of staphylococcal superantigen on oral tolerance

    Författare :Anna Stern; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oral tolerance; superantigen; hygiene hypothesis; staphylococcal enterotoxin;

    Sammanfattning : Exposure to soluble proteins via the gut gives rise to systemic tolerance, a phenomenon called oral tolerance. Failure of oral tolerance results in allergy, a disease that has increased during the last decades in Western industrialized countries. The cause of this rapid increase is unknown. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Escherichia coli Fimbriae, Bacterial Persistence and Host Response Induction in the Human Urinary Tract

    Författare :Göran Bergsten; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; IL-8; IL-6; neutrophils; GFP; mucosal host response; Type 1 fimbriae; P fimbriae; adherence; virulence factors; regulation; deliberate colonisation; Escherichia coli 83972; Urinary tract infection; asymptomatic bacteriuria;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are among the most common bacterial infections in humans. Symptomatic UTIs may be acute, recurrent or chronic but the most frequent form of UTI is asymptomatic bacteruria (ABU). In ABU, the mucosa remains inert, despite the presence of large bacterial numbers in urine. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Nora virus as a model to study persistent infection in Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Mazen Habayeb; Dan Hultmark; Joachim De Miranda; Molecular Biology; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nora virus; Drosophial; persistence; transmission; RNAi; capsid proteins; Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases; Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Drosophila melanogaster has been widely used as a model organism to study the immune responses against bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses. Here, I present a D. melanogaster virus as a model to study persistent virus infections. I have discovered and characterized the Nora virus, a small picorna-like RNA virus able to persistently infect D. LÄS MER
