  1. 1. Middle ear mechanics : using temporal bone experiments to improve clinical methods

    Författare :Anton Rönnblom; Krister Tano; Magnus Von Unge; Mimmi Werner; Måns Eeg-Olofsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Middle ear; conductive hearing loss; ossiculoplasty; human temporal bone; Laser doppler vibrometry; malleus fracture; middle ear muscles; muscle fiber composition; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundThe middle ear transmits and amplifies sound vibrations from the tympanic membrane via three ossicles to the inner ear. Moreover, it contains two muscles, the stapedius muscle (SM) which protects the inner ear from loud noise, and the tensor tympani (TT) whose function is still debated. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Middle ear structure in relation to function : the rat in middle ear research

    Författare :Nils Albiin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :rats; Eustachian tube; ear; middle; tympanic membrane; palatal muscles; mucous membrane; blood vessels; mast cells; otitis media; microscopy; electron;

    Sammanfattning : The present study was undertaken to evaluate the rat as a model for middle ear research. The rat was chosen primarily because the gross structure of its middle ear shows several similarities to that of man. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Influence of middle ear pressure changes on labyrinthine hydrodynamics and hearing physiology

    Författare :Konrad Konradsson; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; auditive system and speech; audiology; Pressure; Audiometry; Cats; Animal; Cochlea; Cochlear aqueduct; Ear; Eustachian tube; Hearing; Otorinolaryngologi; Human; Labyrinth; Otorhinolaryngology; Meniere s disease; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Sammanfattning : Results from experimental studies, as well as clinical studies, are used to elucidate the effects of ambient pressure changes on cochlear hydrodynamics and function. The perilymph pressure changes and the pressure release effects of the cochlear aqueduct (CA) and Eustachian tube (ET) in cats exposed to hypobaric pressure are elucidated. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The linear and nonlinear biomechanics of the middle ear

    Författare :Thomas Wright; Martin Lesser; Viktor Beryuk; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; biomechanics; middle ear models; ossicular chain; Bioteknik; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the biomechanics of the human middle ear, that part of the auditory system which converts sound pressure waves in air to fluid pressure waves in the cochlea. The middle ear's mechanism is analysed in four papers, three main and one supporting; in the main papers the middle ear is treated as a multi-particle, multi-rigid body ensemble possessing a variable number of degrees of freedom depending upon the case being investigated. 5. 5. Distribution and Effects of NO and CO in the Human Upper Respiratory Tract

    Författare :Jens Andersson; Helsingborg Kliniska Vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; transplantation; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; serologi; Immunologi; serology; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen; Immunology; sinus; upper respiratory tract infection; nose; nitric oxide; neutrophil migration; middle ear; hemin; flow cytometry; allergy; carbon monoxide;

    Sammanfattning : Mucosal inflammation and airway hyperreactivity are regulated by hundreds of different mediators. The recent discovery of gaseous mediators, produced and active within the airways, opens new possibilities for identification of therapeutic targets and ways to monitor airway inflammation. LÄS MER
