  1. 1. Otosclerosis; clinical long term-perspectives

    Författare :Ylva Dahlin Redfors; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; otosclerosis; stapedectomy; hearing loss; conductive; hearing aid; health-related quality of life; hearing disability; SF-36; SSQ; IOI-HA; MSCT; CBCT;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis has assessed medical, technical and health-related aspects of otosclerosis from a long-term perspective. A retrospective clinical study was performed where 65 subjects who had previously undergone stapedectomy (1977-1979) were assessed. Twenty-eight - Thirty years later a follow-up was conducted. 2. 2. Hearing in advanced age Epidemiological, pathophysiological, and diagnostic perspectives from the Gothenburg H70 Birth Cohort Studies

    Författare :Hanna Göthberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Age-related hearing loss; Older adult; Hearing decline; Peripheral auditory function; Central auditory function; Audiological research;

    Sammanfattning : The population aged 80 and above is expected to increase in the future resulting in an anticipated rise in health care demands. Age-related hearing loss (ARHL) is described as the third most common health condition associated with ageing. ARHL often results in communication difficulties and social isolation and is associated with cognitive decline. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Bone anchored hearing aids 'BAHAs' in children

    Författare :Claudia Priwin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :BAHA; conductive hearing loss; unilateral hearing loss; children; audiometry; sound localization; speech audiometry; self-assessment; questionnaire; craniofacial abnormalities;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: The technique for applying bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHAs) by the use of osseointegration is today widely established for both adults and children. The BAHA concept is suitable for patients with recurrent ear infections or car malformations who cannot use conventional hearing aids, which are placed altogether or partially in the ear canal. 4. 4. Middle ear mechanics : using temporal bone experiments to improve clinical methods

    Författare :Anton Rönnblom; Krister Tano; Magnus Von Unge; Mimmi Werner; Måns Eeg-Olofsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Middle ear; conductive hearing loss; ossiculoplasty; human temporal bone; Laser doppler vibrometry; malleus fracture; middle ear muscles; muscle fiber composition; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundThe middle ear transmits and amplifies sound vibrations from the tympanic membrane via three ossicles to the inner ear. Moreover, it contains two muscles, the stapedius muscle (SM) which protects the inner ear from loud noise, and the tensor tympani (TT) whose function is still debated. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Hearing in children with cleft palate

    Författare :Birgitta Tengroth; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: The overall aim of this thesis was to collect longitudinal information about hearing thresholds and complications due to otitis media with effusion (OME) in children with cleft palate. Since OME is highly prevalent in children with cleft palate, many authors have hypothesized that the hearing loss associated to OME contributes to the delayed development of early speech and language often seen in these children.
