  1. 26. Biomarkers of aromatic isocyanates in exposed workers

    Författare :Pernilla Lind; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adducts; biomarkers; exposure; occupational; methylenediphenyl diisocyanate; toluene diisocyanate; amines; isocyanates; polyurethane; Gas chromatography; mass spectrometry; Occupational health; industrial medicine; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : The aromatic isocyanates, toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), are used in the production of polyurethane (PUR) foams, paints, elastomers and glues. The use of isocyanates is increasing, and exposure to isocyanates is the most common cause of occupational asthma. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Redox Regulation and Stress Responses - Studies in Bacillus subtilis

    Författare :Jonas Larsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; redox sensor; oxygen sensor; reactive nitrogen species; RNS; Biology; Biologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; virologi; mykologi; Bacillus subtilis; Rex; yjbI; ydiH; yjbH; redox regulation;

    Sammanfattning : Redox reactions are central to all organisms to sustain life. Both anabolic and catabolic metabolism depends on them. It is thus vital to sense and adjust the redox balance in the cell. One major factor affecting the redox status is the level of oxygen present. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Incidence, predictors and biomarkers for antiretroviral and/or anti-tuberculosis drugs induced liver injury

    Författare :Getnet Yimer Ali; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Anti-tuberculosis and/or antiretroviral drugs induced liver injury (DILI) is a major challenge when managing TB and/or HIV patients. The aims of this thesis were to identify incidence, risk factors, and management of DILI among 4 different treatment groups namely; HIV positive individuals with no TB co-infection and had a CD4 count of < 200 cells/μl (taking ARV drugs alone = arm 1), TB-HIV co-infected patients with a CD4 count of < 200 cells/μl (taking both anti-TB and ARV drugs = arm 2), TB-HIV co-infected patients with a CD4 count of > 200 cells/μl (taking anti-TB alone = arm 3), HIV negative TB patients (taking anti-TB alone = arm 4). 4. 29. Impact of chronic kidney disease on the cardiovascular system : studies in non-dialysis patients and healthy people

    Författare :Anna Asp; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiac and arterial remodeling and stiffening occur in end-stage renal disease. The presence of cardiovascular (CV) alterations in earlier-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) is less well studied. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Physiological trade-offs in reproduction and condition dependence of a secondary sexual trait

    Författare :Måns S. Andersson; Victor Apanius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Trade-offs; life history; immune ecology; cost of reproduction; costs of immune response; sexual selection; migration; moult; Newcastle disease; HbA1C; Ficedula albicollis; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines parental condition, how it is traded off against reproduction and how it is displayed in a secondary sexual trait. The studies were performed on nest-box breeding collared flycatchers Ficedula albicollis on the island of Gotland, in the Baltic Sea. LÄS MER
