7. Neuropathic Pain; Quality of Life, Sensory Assessments and Pharmacological Treatments
Sammanfattning : Neuropathic pain of central and peripheral origin presents a substantial clinical problem as it is often resistant to pharmacological treatment. The health related quality of life of 126 patients with peripheral neuropathic pain was studied, to provide a cross sectional description from this point of view. 8. Biomarkers for Better Understanding of the Pathophysiology and Treatment of Chronic Pain : Investigations of Human Biofluids
Sammanfattning : Chronic pain affects 20 % of the global population, causes suffering, is difficult to treat, and constitutes a large economic burden for society. So far, the characterization of molecular mechanisms of chronic pain-like behaviors in animal models has not translated into effective treatments. LÄS MER
9. Neonatal Exposure to Anaesthesia and Adjuvants : Acute Effects on Cerebral Apoptosis and Neuroproteins, and Late Behavioural Aberrations in Mice
Sammanfattning : During a finite developmental phase – the brain growth spurt – the brain grows and matures at an accelerated rate. During this period the brain is more sensitive to harmful substances such as ethanol and environmental toxins than before or after. LÄS MER
10. Long-term Effects of Opioids in the Treatment of Chronic Pain : Investigation of Problems and Hazards on Clinical, Biochemical, Cellular and Genetic Levels
Sammanfattning : After two decades of liberal prescribing of opioids, there has been an increasing recognition of problems connected to the prolonged use of opioids for chronic pain. The aim of my thesis was to explore some consequences of long-term opioid treatment for chronic pain such as problematic opioid use, endocrine disorders, tolerance and genetic variations in pain and opioid response.
