1. Biomarkers for Better Understanding of the Pathophysiology and Treatment of Chronic Pain : Investigations of Human Biofluids
Sammanfattning : Chronic pain affects 20 % of the global population, causes suffering, is difficult to treat, and constitutes a large economic burden for society. So far, the characterization of molecular mechanisms of chronic pain-like behaviors in animal models has not translated into effective treatments. LÄS MER
2. Towards Personalized Cancer Therapy : New Diagnostic Biomarkers and Radiosensitization Strategies
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the evaluation of biomarkers for radio-immunodiagnostics and radio-immunotherapy and on radiosensitization strategies after HSP90 inhibition, as a step towards more personalized cancer medicine. There is a need to develop new tracers that target cancer-specific biomarkers to improve diagnostic imaging, as well as to combine treatment strategies to potentiate synergistic effects. LÄS MER
3. Integrating multi-omics for type 2 diabetes : Data science and big data towards personalized medicine
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex metabolic disease characterized by multi-tissue insulin resistance and failure of the pancreatic β-cells to secrete sufficient amounts of insulin. Cells recruit transcription factors (TF) to specific genomic loci to regulate gene expression that consequently affects the protein and metabolite abundancies. LÄS MER
4. Molecular serum portraits - A step towards personalized medicine
Sammanfattning : Antibody microarray technology has the potential for playing a large roll in identifying serological biomarker panels for personalized medicine. The aim of this thesis, based on four original papers, was to investigate if information in the serum proteome could be extracted and used for diagnostic, classificational, prognostic or treatment predictive purposes in a range of diseases. 5. Heart and lung function - in health and disease : methodological studies in clinical physiology
Sammanfattning : The human heart and lungs constitute an intricate and dynamic system. Various clinical physiological examinations can be used to evaluate cardio-pulmonary function and identify abnormalities. Thus, it is important to understand how normal physiology presents, to be able to identify pathological findings. LÄS MER
