11. Renal dysfunction in orthopaedic surgery - with special reference to drug effects in the elderly
Sammanfattning : Total hip replacement (THR) is a common procedure, generally performed in elderly persons. Previous studies indicated that the use of isoxazolyl penicillins could induce a transient post-operative renal dysfunction in these patients. LÄS MER
12. Surgery in Armed Conflicts : Predicting surgical treatment needs and improving resource use in resource-constrained settings
Sammanfattning : Background In armed conflicts, civilian health care struggles to cope. Understanding the relationship between demographics, injury mechanism, and injury patterns to predict what surgical resources are needed is therefore vital. LÄS MER
13. The Round Window Membrane - Gateway to the Cochlea : A Morphological and Electrophysiological study
Sammanfattning : Topical treatment of several inner ear diseases through the round window membrane (RWM) might be feasible in the near future. Bacteria toxins, ototoxic drugs and noise trauma seem to harm the inner ear by a common pathway which involves, excessive outflow of the afferent neurotransmitter glutamate and formation of nitric oxide (NO), which can severely damage cells/nerve endings and lead to cell death. 14. Mechanisms regulating ion transport in the secretory epithelia of the inner ear : an experimental study
Sammanfattning : The apical portions of the cells in the sensory end organs for audition and equilibrium border a fluid called endolymph. Endolymph is the only extracellular fluid in the body which is characterized by an intracellular-like ion composition. LÄS MER
15. Experimental Studies on Diagnostic and Therapeutic Aspects of Intraosseous Access
Sammanfattning : Reliable access to the circulation is paramount in most medical and surgical emergencies. When venous access cannot be expediently established, intraosseous (IO) access is indicated. This method has a high success rate even in relatively inexperienced hands and there is considerable clinical experience of IO administration of drugs and fluids. LÄS MER
