1. Experimental Studies on Diagnostic and Therapeutic Aspects of Intraosseous Access
Sammanfattning : Reliable access to the circulation is paramount in most medical and surgical emergencies. When venous access cannot be expediently established, intraosseous (IO) access is indicated. This method has a high success rate even in relatively inexperienced hands and there is considerable clinical experience of IO administration of drugs and fluids. LÄS MER

3. Health-related quality of life, treatment satisfaction and clinical aspects of patients with primary antibody deficiency receiving subcutaneous IgG self-infusions at home
Sammanfattning : Patients with primary antibody deficiencies (PAD) are unable to produce sufficient amounts of antibodies and are therefore susceptible to severe bacterial infections. The standard therapy has been intravenous infusions of immunoglobulin G (IVIG) every 2-4 weeks. LÄS MER
4. Reducing the morbidity of transurethral resection of the prostate based on patient selection, fluid absorption, and blood loss
Sammanfattning : A higher long-term mortality due to myocardial infarction after TURP, compared to open surgery, irrigating fluid absorption and blood loss, prompted this investigation of whether prostate size has any correlation with cardiovascular risk factors, whether two common fluids differ in terms of harmful effects, and whether premedication with finasteride may reduce the blood loss during TURP. Paper I; Fifty-two patients were studied before the treatment of their bladder outlet obstruction. LÄS MER
5. Nitric oxide generation from nitroglycerin and other no-donors measured in the lung and studies on nitrate tolerance in the cardiovascular system
Sammanfattning : Nitroglycerin (GTN) and compounds referred to as nitrovasodilators or NOdonors are frequently used in the treatment of ischemic heart disease. The common mode of action for these drugs is liberation of nitric oxide (NO). Nitric oxide evokes relaxation of smooth muscle through activation of guanylate cyclase with subsequent formation of eGMP. LÄS MER
