  1. 1. Afterload system design for functional donor heart assessment

    Författare :Harry Pigot; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; physiological modelling; cardiac afterload; heart assessment; working heart; simulation; control of physiological and clinical variables;

    Sammanfattning : Heart transplantation is a life-saving procedure for patients with end-stage heart failure. However, conservative acceptance criteria result in most donated hearts being discarded. Enabling clinicians to assess heart function after organ procurement can pave the way for the safe use of hearts that are currently rejected. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Food web dynamics in open and closed systems

    Författare :Johan Lövgren; Lennart Persson; Jonathan Chase; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; allochtonous input; cross habitat foraging; donor control; heterogeneity within trophic level; compensation; food web; littoral; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a summary of enclosure and microcosm experiments that aimed to study the impact of allochtonous subsidies on food web dynamics in a heterogeneous food web. In the enclosure studies, a three trophic level littoral food web was used. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Preventive Environmental Strategies in Eastern European Industry: An analysis of donor support for cleaner production

    Författare :Håkan Rodhe; Internationella miljöinstitutet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Commercial and industrial economics; kontroll av utsläpp; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; Cleaner production Preventive strategies Eastern Europe; Industriell ekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : Since 1991 cleaner production projects have been pursued by the donors in Eastern European industry. These projects have aimed at demonstrating the benefits of a preventive approach to environmental protection, and to train people within the industry to perform the cleaner production assessments that constitute the core element of the preventive approach. 4. 4. Structure and morphology control of organic semiconductors for functional optoelectronic applications

    Författare :Jenny Enevold; Ludvig Edman; Thomas Wågberg; Christian Müller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic electronics; organic photonics; patterning; fullerene; polymerization; dimerization; spray-deposition; morphology; small molecule donor; high open-circuit voltage;

    Sammanfattning : The functionality and application of organic semiconductors are largely dependent on their constituent structure and morphology. This thesis presents a number of functional and novel approaches for the control and tuning of structural and morphological features of a variety of organic semiconductor materials, and also demonstrates that these approaches can be utilized for improved device operation of field-effect transistors, organic solar cells and light-emitting electrochemical cells. 5. 5. Tendon transfer mechanics and donor muscle properties : implications in surgical correction of upper limb muscle imbalance

    Författare :Eva Pontén; Bertil Romanus; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :laser diffraction; sarcomere length; tendon transfer; spasticity; muscle morphology; myosin heavy chain; capillary; rabbit; human; cerebral palsy; stroke; handkirurgi; hand surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Tendon transfer surgery is used to improve the hand function of patients with nerve injuries, spinal cord lesions, cerebral palsy (CP), stroke, or muscle injuries. The tendon of a muscle, usually with function opposite that of the lost muscle function, is transferred to the tendon of the deficient muscle. LÄS MER
