  1. 6. Starch Microparticles as an Oral Vaccine Adjuvant with Emphasis on the Differentiation of the Immune Response

    Författare :Linda Stertman; Ingvar Sjöholm; Kjell-Olov Grönvik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; Vaccine adjuvant; Microparticles; Oral immunisation; Th1 Th2 differentiation; Mucosal immune response; Uptake; M cell; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Sammanfattning : Polyacryl starch microparticles have been developed as an oral vaccine adjuvant capable of inducing strong local and systemic immune responses in mice. In this thesis, the starch microparticles were studied in order to increase basic understanding of their function. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Epidemiological characterisation of Bordatella pertussis in Sweden, 1970-2004

    Författare :Abdolreza Advani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Worldwide, Bordetella pertussis causes some 50 million cases of pertussis, and an estimated 2-300,000 fatalities each year. In Sweden vaccination against pertussis was introduced in the 1950s using diphtheria-tetanus-whole-cell pertussis vaccine (DTPw) until 1979, when it was withdrawn due to concerns about effectiveness. Sammanfattning : Diphtheria Toxin-like ADP-RibosyltransferasesThe Human ADP-ribosyl transferases (ARTDs) are a group of poorly studied enzymes which are believed to be involved in e.g. DNA repair, protein degradation, transcription regulation and cell death. Medicinal chemistry programmes aimed at developing selective inhibitors of these ARTDs were initiated. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Adverse Reactions after Vaccination and Allergen-Specific Immunotherapy: Contact Allergy to Aluminium and Itching Nodules

    Författare :Eva Netterlid; Yrkes- och miljödermatologi; []

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to investigate two different types of adverse reactions, persistent itching nodules and contact allergy to aluminium, after immunization with aluminium-containing vaccines and aluminium-containing allergen extracts used for allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT). The first paper describes active parental reporting of adverse events (AEFIs) after a booster dose of diphtheria-tetanus vaccine (DT). LÄS MER
