  1. 1. Genital tract CD4+ T cells for vaccination and protection against Chlamydia trachomatis

    Författare :Ellen Marks; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Chlamydia; T cell differentiation; genital tract; vaccination; costimulation; Th1; Th2; Th17; Tregs;

    Sammanfattning : Vaccination strategies for protection against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are lacking due to an incomplete understanding of genital tract T cell responses. This thesis dissects the generation of T helper subsets, including the recently discovered Th17 subset, during genital tract infection with a common sexually transmitted pathogen, Chlamydia trachomatis, and addresses vaccine requirements for the generation of genital tract CD4+ T cell immunity. 2. 2. Starch Microparticles as an Oral Vaccine Adjuvant with Emphasis on the Differentiation of the Immune Response

    Författare :Linda Stertman; Ingvar Sjöholm; Kjell-Olov Grönvik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; Vaccine adjuvant; Microparticles; Oral immunisation; Th1 Th2 differentiation; Mucosal immune response; Uptake; M cell; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Sammanfattning : Polyacryl starch microparticles have been developed as an oral vaccine adjuvant capable of inducing strong local and systemic immune responses in mice. In this thesis, the starch microparticles were studied in order to increase basic understanding of their function. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Modelling T helper cell activation and development

    Författare :Andreas Jansson; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; T cells; mathematical models; differentiation; computer simulation; mathematical models; cellular signal transduction; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Natural sciences; Naturvetenskap; Technology; Teknik;

    Sammanfattning : T helper (Th) cell activation and development is one of the most critical events in regulating the adaptive immune response. Understanding its regulation could be of great therapeutical value as many severe diseases are associated with failure in controlling T cell activation and development. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulation of T cell effector functions in the intestinal mucosa

    Författare :Petra Holmkvist; Slemhinnans immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; T cells; memory; intestine; cytokines; differentiation; IL-18; inflammation; antigen presentation;

    Sammanfattning : T lymphocytes are a critical cellular component of the adaptive immune response. They are generated in the thymus from bone marrow derived progenitors, where they undergo commitment to the T cell lineage and differentiate and mature into naïve CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Regulatory properties of dendritic cells and B cells in adaptive immunity

    Författare :Bengt Johansson Lindbom; Adaptivt immunförsvar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; Immunology; Cellular differentiation; Cytokines; Dendritic cells; B lymphocytes; T lymphocytes;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based upon four original papers in which human dendritic cells (DCs) and B cells have been analyzed in terms of how they influence the character of adaptive immune responses. DCs isolated from human tonsils were found to possess a capacity to directly regulate proliferation, isotype switching, and antibody production in B cells. LÄS MER
