  1. 6. Apolipoprotein A-I in glucose metabolism and amyloidosis

    Författare :Oktawia Nilsson; Medicinsk proteinvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amyloidosis; Apolipoprotein A-I; beta cell; cardiovascular disease; cholesterol efflux; diabetes; glucose metabolism; glycation; high-density lipoprotein; insulin secretion;

    Sammanfattning : The role of Apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I), the main protein component of HDL, in cholesterol transport and metabolism is well known and has been studied for more than four decades. More recently, ApoA-I protein has been shown to also have a positive role in glucose control by both stimulation of glucose uptake by muscles and by increasing glucose-stimulated pancreatic insulin secretion. 2. 7. Ion channels and electrical activity in vascular smooth muscle: Effects of calcium store depletion, cholesterol and cholesterol-lowering drugs

    Författare :Andreas Bergdahl; Kärlfysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Physiology; statins; endothelin; cholesterol; caveolae; smooth muscle; TRP; Ca2 channels; SOC;

    Sammanfattning : Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in the vessel wall contract to regulate blood flow and pressure, a function essential for normal circulation through tissues. On the other hand, migration and proliferation of SMCs are important factors in vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis and restenosis following surgical dilatation. LÄS MER

  3. 8. PPAR delta : its role in cholesterol metabolism

    Författare :Josefin Skogsberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Peroxisome proliferator activated receptor delta; polymorphism; association studies; LDL-cholesterol; coronary heart disease; LDL receptor; gene expression;

    Sammanfattning : Peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors that regulate several biological processes, many of which are crucial for energy homeostasis. Three different isotypes have been identified; PPARalpha, PPARdelta and PPARgamma that are encoded by different genes and show different expression patterns and functions. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Coffee and gene interaction. The effect on methionine and lipid metabolism

    Författare :Elisabeth Strandhagen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :coffee; homocysteine; cholesterol; folate; pyridoxine; MTHFR; APOE; gene; polymorphism; interaction;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Different dietary factors influence the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), most likely in an interaction with genetic polymorphisms. The knowledge about such interactions is insufficient. Some observational studies have shown an association between coffee and CHD, others have not. Coffee consumption affects some CHD risk factors, e. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Nutrition in infancy - Clinical studies on dietary intake, metabolism and growth

    Författare :Pia Karlsland Åkeson; Preventiv pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; urea; triglycerides; protein intake; nutrition; Mediterranean; infant; growth; formula; fat intake; energy intake; diet; C-peptide; cholesterol; breast milk; bioavailability; amino acids; apolipoproteins; weaning; weaning foods; Pediatrics; Pediatri;

    Sammanfattning : Nutrition in infancy - Clinical studies on dietary intake, metabolism and growth Our aims were to try to determine an appropriate formula protein concentration to be used during the second half of infancy and to evaluate the effects on plasma lipids when breast milk was exchanged for formula and/or weaning foods. Both aspects were studied with special regard to the influence of traditional weaning foods. LÄS MER
