1. Homocysteine in cardiovascular disease with special reference to longitudinal changes
Sammanfattning : Abnormalities in homocysteine metabolism have been suggested as risk factors for stroke and myocardial infarction. In retrospective studies, elevated levels of total plasma homocysteine (tHcy) and/or methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) 677C>T polymorphism have indicated an increase in risk. LÄS MER
2. Homocysteine and vascular morbidity and dementia in women. A prospective population study
Sammanfattning : Homocysteine and cardiovascular morbidity and dementia in women - A prospective population study Dimitri Edin Zylberstein Institute of Medicine, The Sahlgrenska Academy, Department of Public Health and Community Medicine, Section of Primary Health Care, University of Gothenburg Abstract Purpose. The purpose of this thesis was to study cardiovascular morbidity and dementia in relation to homocysteine levels in women in a longitudinal, prospective population study over several decades. LÄS MER
3. Homocysteine and Coronary Artery Disease With special Reference to Biochemical Effects Of Vitamin Therapy
Sammanfattning : An elevated plasma level of homocysteine has been suggested as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The objectives of this thesis were to study the influence of renal function on homocysteine levels in patients with coronary artery disease and to explore the association of elevated plasma levels of homocysteine to oxidative stress, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction. 4. Homocysteine and its determinants in relation to cardiovascular risk factors and myocardial infarction
Sammanfattning : Background: Globally, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke, are the leading cause of illness and death and constitute a significant part of the disease burden in Sweden and Western Europe. Age, hypertension, smoking, obesity, dyslipoproteinemia, diabetes, and impaired renal function are considered established risk factors for CVD. LÄS MER
5. Genetic variation in the folate receptor-alpha and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase genes as determinants of plasma homocysteine concentrations
Sammanfattning : Elevated total plasma homocysteine (tHcy) is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and neurocognitive disease such as dementia. The B vitamins folate and B12 are the main de terminants of tHcy. tHcy concentration can also be affected by mutations in genes coding for receptors, enzymes and transporters important in the metabolism of Hcy.
